    Handle: Sledge Hammer

    Group: TAR

    Date of birth: 19.10.1970

  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • It started all in the year 1982, I've got an ZX81 Sinclair.

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • C64 for playing games, but then i discover my love to the
synthetic sounds. My god, how many time i spent to listening songs by
Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Whittacker, Daglish or Jeroen Tel.
On Amiga, when the Godfather of Soundtracker, Karsten Obarski brings out his legendary Programm,
i stardet to make Music on Amiga. We made 4 Tuneshows and a lot of Demomusics for various Groups.
In End of 1990 we planed to make music professionally for a game. For that we joined Digitgal SimpleX.
Just before the Musics und Grafix were nearly finished, our coders stopped the project. This was not
so funny for us. So we decided to stop making music for the first time.

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • We loved the music from musicians like Hubbard, Galway, David Withaker and all the others, so we were always
intersted in making our own stuff but we've got no really good tool. But suddenly Karsten Obarskis
Soundtracker appeared in the secene. At this time Karlheinz, Oliver and myself founded "The Acoustic Revolution".

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • We used Soundmonitor on C64.
on Amiga: Dynamic Drums, Soundtracker, Protracker, Oktalyzer
We supported Armin Sander with the Oktalyzer. Doing Testing, Demo Songs,
the Handbook and bringing in some cool, fresh ideas.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • I did it with Snare slider.

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • the tune was Beastmaster. My first Song i did with the Soundtracker. I thank god that nobody can download it.

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • Without music a demo or game is not complete.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • In 1997 i composed my last song. This was a birthday present for my girlfrend. I did it with an Oktalyzer
clone for the PC. Afer that i ended up composing.

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • Great, i wished that we had this opportunity in 1988. Today its much easier to make
    musics.

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • There are so much tunes i like. But I always was an absolutely Hubbard / Galway fan.
I bing it to the point: Sanxion and Arkanoid.

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • In 1993 we made a remasterd recording of our Greatest Hits from the Original Amiga mod´s and okt´s.
There are 2 Audio-CD´s. If you want to get one, feel free to contact us via E-mail.

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • Depeche Mode, remastered C64 and Amigatunes and much more, but no HipHop and House

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • This was the time in my life that gave me the most fun and pleasure.
So I'am very happy that the scene is still around us for so long time.
I'am proud to be a part of it.

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • Sadly I must say No! But I'am 35 years old, so I have plenty of time for a great comeback,
if MTV pays me 1 Million Dollars. (joke ;-) )

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • Read the scroll-text of TAR Tune-Show II - IV. I don't remember all the cool guys at the moment.
But I really want to greet and thank you guys who make this interview possible, all the guys who
remastered our favourite c64 and amiga-tunes and all our fans.
