  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • Well, let me take you a long, long way in time... :)) It was around 1985 or
so, when I saw for the first time some Coin-up machines, and I was amazed
by them like every boy. So, the first reason, why I decided to beg my
parents for some computer, were games. How convinient :) Then, after
terrorificating, begging, promising my parents, I was given my first comp.
It was Didaktik M - Czech copy of ZX spectrum. After some time spend by
games I started to make something else, like trainers for ZX games, classic
text adventures in Basic like Zork etc. Then in 1988 I saw Amiga 500. Wow!
It was impossible for me to have my own one, because there was embargo for
Motorola chips in Czech Republic set by Czech commie government (there were
some Motorola chips placed in Pershing rocket missiles). But finally in
1989, after the revolution and communist fall in our country, I`ve got my
first Amiga comp - A2000... but thats another story... see below :)

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • First it was ZX Spectrum - well, today its somewhere in our family house
    attic or so...

Then its Amiga 2030/33 mHz, my oldie called "Shitty". Its still usable, but
I dont use it nowadays. My monitor is sitting on it, so it is used like some
    kind of pedestial :)

And finally my old beauty - A1230/50,64Ram,CD-Rom,CD-RW,Fast-Ata etc...
nothing special. Thats the one I still use till today.

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • Heh, thats easy... I always preferred music than the others. I played bass 4
years in Punk Rock group too. And there is not enough talent for me to code
(I ended by lAmos Basic :)) nor to make GFX. Music is what makes me feel
good :) Everybody does just what he knows best.

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • I`ve tried and used almost every tracking prog on amiga, such as Protracker,
Octamed, SoundStudio, Digibooster, DB pro etc. but I still prefer Protracker
2.31 (the bad point is just 65kb per sample and 4channels), sometimes
    Digibooster Pro.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • Heh, nice question.... I will tell you this. Every time I finish my latest
module, I feel that this one is the best at all. And thats every time the
same with newest mods. So, we can say its something like progress. The
latest one always rulez :) But "reach my goal"??? What does it mean? There
have to be NO goal, nonsense... I do music to bring my ideas to life, to
freshen the line with the new tricks, melodies, lines. There is nothing like
"my goal". Every musician is proving, progressing to the better and higher
heights of music, of ideas. So simply, there is no answer to this question.

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For What reason?

  • A lot of them :)) Why? See above. When I hear my old tunes, it makes me feel
to rearrange some parts, to do it better, quality of samples etc...
Basically, some my old tunes sounds like playing from trashbin :) the rule
is - forget the past, look forward for tommorrow...

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • My opinion is, that value of music in those cases is essential. There were
really good games in the past, but in case there are not good sound FX or
background music, it can simply strike a game 2 grades down. On the other
hand, if there is good work on music through game, it can take a game a
little bit upper. Music and FX always makes game atmosphere better, more
real... Can you forget the great music in Turrican, Apydia, Lionheart,
Amberstar and Ambermoon, Black Crypt etc.?? They are the samples how much
    does music mean to game.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Yes, Im still composing. Well, nowadays Im little bit snagnating, I feel sick
of situation around our beloved Amiga plus how the scene looks today. A lot
of shitheads, lamers. Just a few quality productions, its really sad. There
was rule in the past. Nobody cannot sign itself like "scener". The others
sceners have to call him scener. Like reward for his work, friendship etc.
That is how I feel that. To be a scener was privilegue, not the right. I
composed some mod, spread it to others, I was joined by a scene group, my
work was heard in demos, parties, the others started to call me "scener",
becousemy work and lifestyle were found good. Thats the way, not as I can
see today. The guy is calling himself as "scener", because he did something,
some terrible sounding 2meg shitty techno module. Thats how today Czech
scene looks. Lot of stupids with no ideas what really scene is. Salute to
all exceptions, to all with nonprofit great work, to those "shades from the
past", to those "reflections of the past glory". I hail you all, you know
who you are!!! There always were the ones leading and keeping the real
spirit of scene, and the rest, who enjoyed their shows or tried to be so
good to become the elite... thats my opinion.

And the second half of the question: I still composing just for fun, to show
the others my work, to show them what is in me :) My proffessional carrier
follows another way... ASP scripting, Database systems ets.

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • Well, there are a lot of music formats today, but each with different
quality and for different purposes. Mpeg, waw, aiff etc. are good for
keeping and storing the real sounds to digi format, but its stupidity, its
almost a crime to have for example mpeg stream as music in demo. Why? Of
course, mpeg will sound always better than 4ch module nor chip tune. But
thats not the purpose of a demo. To say the truth, any lamer can make some
smooth and nice keyboard music, store it as mpeg and then feel like "king".
Is this really what we want, what we need in demoproduction? The rule and
purpose of demo is simple. To manage the best by limited ways. In my
opinion, a really good tune is not some xxMB stream or module with sampled
300 kb samples in it, but a great tune done by limited pieces of samples
with limited quality. Its simpliest at all, when you need a little bit
different sounding sample, to process it in some sound processing program
and load it to the tune twice. But is that really wanted goal? The real
mightiness is to do it by protracker commands for example. When I hear
some new modules, there are some really good sounding ones, I say "how the hell he did
this effect???", load it to protracker or SounsStudio and then.... No
effects, all made by long samples simply pasted each after each. There
cannot be a single word of support for those from my side. Thats about the
scene and demo productions. Let the different formats their different
    purpose.

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • Huelsbeck`s tunes from Turrican, Turrican II and Apydia.
Music from Lionheart, Amberstar and Ambermoon, its from german composer from
Thalion software, unfortunatelly I cannot remember right now his name :(
Music from Black Crypt, Shadow of the beast`s, Ruff`n`tumble, Evils Doom,
    Perihelion, such as some else...
Then some never dying chiptunes, and from scene? I never had a special
composer to obey, but there are some names promising a quality, such as
Jogeir Liljedahl, 4mat, eXtend, Dice, Brainbug and the others.

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • No, currently not. But you can never know... :)

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • There are a lot of bands I listen to... Mainly underground Grind core, death
^ black metal, some WP rock bands as Pluton Svea, Fortress or Landser,
original motion picture soundtracks ( I love Basil Poledouris` Conan the
Barbarian soundtrack, or The Rock soundrack, they really rulez!!!), some
preudo classic with deep and mighty sound like C.Orff`s Carmina Burana.
Simply a lot of music :)

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • This answer is not so hard... Friendship, joy from work... What to write
else??? I think its the same for all sceners around....

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • Well, active... more or less I am. I`m still doing some tunes for TRiP
productions, for my friends in other groups etc. Nowadays its not so hard
like in the past, but as I said, after the situation aroud Amiga in the
second half of `99 I almost gave up. The joy of process is almost gone...
For whom I could make something? For that bunch of lamerz around??? Its hard
to explain my feelings anyway. Im waiting to catch the second breath or to
definitelly die... We`ll see in the future...

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • Greetz must to go to one of coolest scener around Czech scene - Fractal^iNS,
    then AGAs^hVR, FiD0^iNS, Hologram, Lazy Jones^VRt, Sante^aBS, HeavyWeight
and guyz at TRiP and the rest sceners I know and like. U know who you are :).

A special greet to all WP comrades around the globe: Death to ZOG and commie
scum! U know that we will win - Vae Victis!
