Truncated Falcon track

Completely by accident, AMP has just led me to discover a hugely talented artist of whom I was previously completely unaware: Falcon.

Having downloaded a few tracks at random (not having any other way to choose), I'm seriously impressed.  Many thanks for making this stuff available.

Unfortunately, I've just discovered one of the uploads is faulty.  The track is named 'Voices and visions vol.1' (http://amp.dascene.net/downmod.php?index=84109), and is listed as being 1K in size.  The reason for this is that most of the file is missing. :(

Please can this be fixed?

Hi,

Glad AMP helped you discovering a musician whose musics you like :).
To the topic, I'm afraid the file is correct. The small size is due to this S3M having Ad-Lib samples. Just use a player that handles this kind of S3M format (or the tracker itself in DOSBox).
I'm sorry I can't help you more. Anyone can list a player ?

Tried using BZRplayer (which include adplug library), and XMplay.

BZRPlayer load the song, show the samples list and everything, but no sounds.

XMplay do not recognize the file format.

Sorry.

Edit: Found an old version of Oldplay (v0.95), the program crash when loading the file.

This is a AdLib S3M module.

Voices and visions vol.1.s3m: ftp://ftp.modland.com/pub/modules/Ad%20Lib/Screamtracker%203/Falcon%20(PL)/voices%20and%20visions%20vol.1.as3m
Note that the file extension was changed to .as3m to avoid mixing with normal S3M modules in the MODLAND database.

For best playback quality (besides running Screamtracker 3 in DOSBox) use XMPlay with the In_Adlibtracker2 input-plugin.

[EDIT]
Never mind, I just found out that the In_Adlibtracker2 plugin isn't capable to play this module correctly, and AdPlug for Winamp fails on this one, too.
[/EDIT]

XMPlay: ftp://ftp.modland.com/pub/players/Windows/XMPlay/XMPlay%20v3.4.2.127.rar
In_Adlibtracker2: ftp://ftp.modland.com/pub/players/Windows/Winamp/input%20plugins/In_Adlibtracker2%20Player%20v0.96.2%20(YMF262%20CVS%202009-01-01).rar

The song found in modland is slightly different than the one from AMP.

Using this one, nothing crashes and XMPlay play (almost) the song for 7 seconds and stops...

Screamtracker 3 in DOSBox seems to be THE solution.

'AdLib' - right.  As far as I can tell from Google results, that's some sort of chip sample generator, right?  I'm guessing the instrument definitions only hold parameters for that, then.

It was a look at the binary data of the file that led me to think it was truncated.  There was obviously no sample data, but I couldn't see much in the way of patterns either - so even if I could play it, it looks as if it would have been a very short song!

Thanks for all your help, anyway.  I don't have Windows of any variety, so DOSbox is not an option. :(

I just compared them and found them to be bit-identical.

Have no fear, deus-ex is here. Find attached an MP3 conversion of the module. If you prefer a different streaming format just ask.

Thanks Deus-Ex :)

Yeah, not for RISC OS, though. :)

Yup, you're right, was an error in the http server configuration. The server made on the fly gzip compression, which resulted in double layer gzip.
Should be ok now.

Thanks again for all your support Deus-Ex

That puzzled me for some seconds, too. After looking at the file header of the extracted file I just appended ".zip" to the filename and extracted it once again to restore the original module. Glad to know you could fix it.
