Musician database / Re: Saga Musix/Nuance

Pictures on Slengpung are not indexed by search engines due to robots.txt, so they are far from "floating around freely" - this is not the case for AMP. I am not only speaking for myself but a lot of other musicians when I say that I find it horrible that pictures are taken from Slengpung to be added to more "official" scene databases. If you really think you need a picture of me on this site, use my ModArchive/ picture, but not these. Slengpung is a party picture site, not a scener database to take pictures from.

Can those pictures please stay where they belong (slengpung)? If I wanted any of them to appear on AMP, I would already have given them to you. Also, SM is not an ex-handle. Also, I don't think I ever used the handle "Jojo" ever anywhere in module texts without without also mentioning "Saga Musix" since it's a real-world nick, so that would be kind of obsolete.

It's a bit peculiar that the mentions of Exceed and Teklordz are pretty much mutually exclusive, though; If it's the same person, he most likely has moved between the two continents, since he participated in quite a few European demoparties. Or maybe he let his friends submit the tunes :)
This one's not on AMP, saying that it's Aaron's first release. Doesn't really help that the (possibly) "other" IMode has no releases before that, too. This one also mentions his real name.
This one would confirm that it's the same person, I guess...

There seem to be two IModes, one from Hungary (extrapolating this from the fact that he's in Exceed and participated in several Hungarian demoparties, and that's the information we have on Demozoo as well), and one from the US (Aaron Yee) from the group Teklordz. At least I assume that they are two distinct persons. The one from the US also seems to go by the name "IonianMode". Or does someone know for sure that they are the same person?

General Discussion / Who is the real Timelord?
July 12, 2013, 23:08:56
A bit more than a month ago, the people at The Mod Archive have been contacted by two persons claiming to be the same tracker artist called [artist]1218[/artist]. This battle has been fought out on Amiga Music Preservation before in 2006, but the AMP admins decided to stay neutral after it has been brought up again in 2013.
I was curious because I really like Timelord's music and so I've done a bit of investigation to find out who's lying. I'm rather confident that I've found the liar and want everyone to be aware of the "real" Timelord, so here's the story I've written about it: - I think there's no reason for AMP to stay neutral anymore after reading those findings.
New features / Re: search by real size

Unfortunately, it seems like you have broken normal search by adding this feature. It returns lots of "N/A" rows here.

I can understand how this feature is useful for old broken mods, especially if there are bad rips and such, but I think for IT files it's rather uesless - I think I've never really seen IT files that are too big or too small, apart from those which have extra chunks like those that MPT/BeRoTracker/UNMO3 write if plugins are being used.

I'm not really sure if you'd want to do that, especially on a server in PHP... But if you're really up for it, grabbing a pure C version of the decompression algorithm (such as SchismTracker's implementation + my fix for stereo samples in this implementation) would be the first thing to do...
If you don't want to decode the samples, another possible method to get the packed size would of course be to just subtract following sample pointers from each other and hope that trackers don't put any space in between (which they normally don't).

QuoteThere's also those compressed sample I have to handle, but, so far, I failed to understand such instrument headers.
Which parts do you have problems with? I'm sure I can help there.
Sample flag 0x08 indicates that IT's compression is used... The sample's compressed length isn't stored anywhere in that case, it can only be really computed by decoding the sample, because you can't know which one is the last compressed chunk.

Thanks, that looks a lot better. :)
The next step would be to decode tracker versions correctly, so that it would display "OpenMPT 1.19" instead of "Impulse Tracker 81.19".
Here's some help on how to decode the "Cwtv" field correctly...

Also, "size of pattern data :    33" in that particular example linked in the first post doesn't appear correct to me... :)

Much better, thanks!
Well, PHP is actually right here, it expects a string as a parameter, and 0x00 is not a string, so it converts it to something that is a string (0x00 is a pretty bad case because 0 has so many meanings...).
Generally I'd advice to use a fixed-width font and the CSS rule white-space:pre; for comments, not just in IT files. The CSS rule will make sure that multiple space characters are not condensed into a single one, effectively destroying any kind of ASCII art. In that case, you also don't have to replace 0x0A and 0x0D anymore, as the browser will take care of it.

So, for comments...

font-family: Consolas, monospace; /* Consolas is a nice monospace font on Windows */
And apply that to the comments section.

xmp should have support for various The Player formats, including p61a.

Knowing how horrible PHP is at reinterpreting all kinds of things into other things, I bet it's the last line. Try something like "\0" instead of 0x00, or remove it completely. It's not like NULs in a HTML file are as bad as NULs in a C string... Either way you're not doing the correct thing, because the only thing a NUL should do is terminating the message, if anything at all.

And while we're at it, you may also want to check for 0x0A in addition to 0x0D, as ChibiTracker uses UNIX style for line endings.

So, are zeroes in IT comments ever going to be fixed? ;)
