Title: mini flags
Post by: Asle on May 01, 2011, 13:24:33
Hi,

I'm fed up seeing my (very) bad flag that advises a music cannot be downloaded ((https://amp.dascene.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Famp.dascene.net%2Fimages%2Fsens-interdit2.png&hash=bd4840a449c89339cbf81fe3cd0d0cc4)).
Can a graphic master, around here, help by fixing this up please ?

Also, I'd welcome star, advising which music entered a music compo. Or something else, as "a star" was all I could think about ;)

Thanks in advance,
Sylvain

Can you link some pages to see how it is currently displayed ?

yup : Bit / Eon (http://amp.dascene.net/detail.php?detail=modules&view=649) for example.

Ok, a bit aggressive, sure (:
And you also want a kinda star icon (star won't do the trick IMO as it's too much linked to rating, popularity, favorites etc.) something to stand for compo tunes, right ?

oh yeah, would be great if our ol'friend anarkhya could do something.  :)

Do I feel/look guilty ? :p

well, yes, the idea was to identify the compo tunes with a small flag thing.
Maybe some one else could have another idea ?

mmm maybe a cube, no, let's spare the cube to flag tunes used in prod (in case you want this kind of filter)

...what could symbolize a compo? ...what about a trophy? Even if a trophy may imply that the tune was ranked in that compo...what do you think?

I do :) though, no music is flag in the DB for that just now. we have quite a few parties set already, so ...

maybe some colored trophy then, like gold for 1, silver for 2, bronze for 3. Now, for the rest, a gray one ?

Okay, thats settled then, I'm afraid grey and silver at small size will surely look the same, but I'll figure out something... black maybe.

First part ATM, here is my "you'll never download this .mod" icon  : (https://amp.dascene.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg819.imageshack.us%2Fimg819%2F7986%2Fsensinterdit2.png&hash=f38bfa8212da49f7340339fb930dfd31) (http://img819.imageshack.us/i/sensinterdit2.png/)

Ouch.  There's a story there, isn't there?

I'm also curious.. give us that dirty secret lying in the shadow (;

No secret, really. He contacted Crown and requested that all his musics shouldn't be available for download anymore.
The "Why" is unclear, but it's not AMP's call.
Several other musicians, like Virgill, asked also for the removal of several musics. Generally, the problem is "unfinished" production got spread by friends :).

Yes, you can't imagine the amount of musicians that are either ashamed or want to wipe away part of their music creations. We don't like that too much as you can imagine but we respect it.

Anarkhya: Thumb up for the great looking mini picture.  :)

Much appreciated

If it is a business/privacy matter, I can understand that urge to erase the past when you dont want your real name associated with your former production, but when its your nickname (and I mean your demoscene nickname) that is only displayed on AMP why would you remove your modules, who cares for them ? Except fellows demosceners.. Intriguing..

Switching topics, the trophy icon is on the way, it is just harder to represent than the "no go" icon, however, I may not comply with the 16px height, actually I'm using 19 or 20 px height right now..

Yeah, I can only agree with you.

Asle still has to add the '"play" logo you painted (asle you remember?)  :)

Can't wait to see the trophy one.

While we're talking about the play function, I don't see that function on AMP right now, where is it displayed ?

Is there a way of telling which people have removed their modules altogether?  Bit pointless uploading stuff if the original musician no longer wants people to download their tunes anymore....

Can't remember who it was I saw recently that had no modules credited to them, uploaded a few and then thought, "hmm, maybe they had them removed" or something, but I couldn't see or know that.

Well Axxy, you need to keep in mind that our purpose is to preserve so please do not mind sending modules composed by a musician that does not want to have his work downloaded. All material enters the database which is important to us.

There should not be any musicians with no music due to a request from them. If a musician doesn't want to have his modules online, we'll block the download, but they'll still appear.  :)

Axxy,

"Removed" entries are still listed. So if nothing is there for a musician, then it's not online and in my todo list. Can you be more specific about what was sent ? I _do_ have a big list of that ...

Tbh, I can't really remember who it was or if I included them in the various.rar's I uploaded recently.

At the time, I was just going through my folders looking for protracker modules that weren't on AMP, or trying to.  It's not always easy. First I have to check the musician or his aliases, then check against module names and hope mine tallies with yours. This is where they occassionally don't match due to I rename them and AMP uses original module name if available or they happen to be someone else using the same alias.  At least I can use the Info tool to check for that.

*edit

Can't remember if I included them, but a few chiptunes by Deadbeat I seem to remember.

Various*.rar are being handled since you sent them. Obviously, it'll take a little time, but should be done by the end of the week. I didn't open them all yet, as, spare time wise, I don't have much.
I'll get there. And THANKS for the sending ! :)

No problem.

I'll continue looking through "o" folders onward. First time in awhile I've had the chance as well, plus its been fun listening to a few along the way. :)

Can't wait to see the trophy one.

So...
Here are the 'trophies', I wish I could add some more details, some handles, but.. you know, I failed :p
Colours should be self-explanatory enough, except the dark one maybe but hey..
I only came up with this idea to flag unranked tunes.

each one is 8 colors, 12x19px and 325 octets so the server will probably be thankful (;

Oh and I'll probably try to do a different version for the ranked1.png (if I come up with something).

Can't wait to see them on AMP.

Thanks pal

woaw ... nice !
I guess I have to add the feature in AMP now. Heh, there_are_ 62 parties set up as of yet in AMP !.
I'll see if an easy update can be done.
So, basically, 3 trophies for the 3 first ranked ziks and the last for the other ranked and/or unranked. That's fine with me.

When I'll use that, I don't know, but it's awfully nice of you to have set these up ! Thanks !
