General Discussion / AMF -> ?
« on: April 26, 2010, 21:23:01 »
Hi,

While checking the recent uploads, someone signing "AOTD3025" uploaded the musics from the PC musicdisk Drastic Scream (thanks !). His message was unclear regarding some conversion that happened. So I searched for the musicdisk and checked it out. It's full of musics in AMF format, the well known DMP internal format created by Otto Chrons.
Obviously, conversion means AMF -> XM. Is there actually such a tool ? I have never been able to find any kind of official documentation for this format, so, never spent much time on it (and that was a looooong time ago).

Anyway, any light on this topic would be welcome :)

Music database / Unreal - PC demo
« on: April 13, 2010, 20:42:09 »
Ok, now that I have a safe way to extract/calculate sizes of S3M, I've had a look at the musics we store on AMP coming from the PC demo Unreal by Future Crew.
It wasn't great, here :)
Replaced all 5 ziks as there was some size problem. Removed the Finnish author "PH" .. heh. Finally, removed the extra "sub songs" that were stored here. All are already in the "main" music file.
So, namely and in order of appearance :
Realm of Chaos by Skaven
Lavender Hill by Skaven
Unreal (unnamed in fact) by Purple Motion
Symphony (unnamed in fact) by Skaven
The White Tiger by Skaven

That's it. I'll see too look at some other PC demo, just to be sure :).

Music database / Star Control 2 (PC DOS game)
« on: April 10, 2010, 17:52:45 »
Hi,

I've updated 19 musics to reflect the fact that they were coming from the PC DOS game Star Control 2.
What's to be noted is that 14 of them had size problem (bad rips, mostly), and more important, the game contains 44 more musics :).
However, for most of those other musics, the credits are unclear. The game says :
Quote
MUSIC
Dan Nicholson
Riku Nuottojarvi
Eric Berge
Erol Otus
I'll upload the remaining musics shortly and attribute said musics to 'unknown composers'. If anyone after that can help identifying the authors, please, tell me/us :).

-- edit --
All right, that's 20 to be identified. you can find them by searching for either "Unknown Composers" as author or "Star Control 2 PC" as module name.

Ripping Amiga music / Extemporized by Digital
« on: March 29, 2010, 05:21:12 »
Let's go for another : Extemporized by Digital.

Nothing fancy, here, at least format-wise, just some manipulating of files is required.

This musicdisk is trackloaded. It contains 14 Crunchmania Address binary sub files.
The two first are gfx/code. The musics are in all 12 others.
Each music is split in two almost equal parts.
So, as an example, music 1 (MOD.sonic city by Clawz) is obtained by :
- decrunching Crunchmania Address binaries 3 and 4
- removing the first two bytes ("Nu") of each decrunched file
- merging 4 (first) with 3 (second)
- removing extra bytes at the end that are here for align matters.

and so on.

that's it.

Note that Prorunner v1 is used, here, as replayer. That explains why some of the musics
are floating around with this Prorunner v1 depacked tag. This is the format in memory only.
I've replaced all 6 musics on AMP. They were all mem dumps and had all 4 bytes missing ...
This will show up in the audit at next upload batch.

The musics :
hopefully devoted by GTO
extemporized by Clawz
sonic city by Clawz
spleen & ideal by Clawz and Reverse
sweltering forest by Clawz
voldsom kanonslag! by Clawz and Reverse

Any question ? don't hesitate.

Musician database / Cro vs Kro

I think Cro is the same as Kro.
I guess our hero, Crown, could investigate this .. hum ?

Support / Feedback / Modinfo - 669 and DMF issues
« on: February 25, 2010, 19:52:20 »
Hi,

Our pal Xlat detected that modinfo had two issues:
- in 669 format : loop size would be loop end instead. fixed
- in DMF format : 16bits flag and volume were wrong. fixed.

Thanks !

Music database / TAR updates (among other things)
« on: February 25, 2010, 19:49:43 »
Hi,

A small news regarding the huge help Xlat has provided regularly. This time, he noticed all the TAR Tuneshow #2 musics were on AMP, but converted to PTK. This is now fixed.
As I said, among other things. Too many to list :).

So, thanks !

Announcements / 100.000
« on: February 22, 2010, 01:18:59 »
All right, this is it. There's a milestone : 100.000 musics online.
As usual, we must thank countless individuals that helped us reach this.
Thanks to the many authors for sending their musics, the "behind the scene" helpers, etc.
We'll keep going as long as possible. We are still far from the end, if there's one.

For the record, here are some figures:
MOD : 74515
XM : 11978
S3M : 3821
IT : 2451
MED : 2414
STK : 1216
etc.

Again thank you all.

General Discussion / S3M ripping
« on: February 07, 2010, 23:40:35 »
ok, I've finished a S3M ripper. Included it into Prowiz, as a matter of fact.
I'm now on my way to check out the musics on AMP in that format.

Was hard to overcome the incomplete official documentation. I've been at it for some time now. It's the third time I'm trying my luck at it ... anyway.

I'll try to add this format into modinfo.

Amiga groups History & Acronyms / Cascade
« on: February 01, 2010, 23:46:05 »
Hallo,

Crown, I think you got something wrong with Cascade. Most of the people (if not all) attached to the group Cascade (CSD - CSE) were in Cascade 1733. That was the old name, apparently.
Please, check out Kestra about that.

Sylvain
I've added the Cascade logo ... very nice one :)

Hi,

The file "1000 Heartbroken Reasons.xm" (upped 20100112) is corrupted and missing 696 bytes. Can anyone up a valid version please ?

Ripping Amiga music / Filled Vectors - LSD
« on: January 18, 2010, 20:59:41 »
Ok, another shot at these explanations regarding "how to" rip/convert.
This time, filled vectors by LSD.

The binary demo file is crunched with Crunchmania Address. Once decrunched, there's a pseudo Module Productor at position 21114, from the beginning.
It is recognized as a Module Protector (without ID) but, it is missing all the sample refs in the patterns.
These are after the samples data.

The music is structured like this :
*** 31 times the following
* sample size /2 (short)
* finetune (char)
* volume (char)
* loop start /2 (short)
* loop size /2 (short)
***
patternlist size (char)
"noisetracker byte" (char)
patternlist (128 bytes)

patterns (the note packing is the same as protracker, without the sample refs)

sample data

sample numbers in patterns (char) - all values are *4

I've built a small decruncher of this file, to generate a Protracker. The source is attached. The result, also.

Ripping Amiga music / A Taste Of U4IA - Megawatts
« on: December 28, 2009, 00:32:20 »
I thought that since there's a channel for Amiga Ripping, I'd open it up with something.

So, here we go, with the musicdisk A Taste Of U4IA by Megawatts.
The LHA archive actually contains all the music data in a sub directory. All is crunched with Imploder (replace PP20 by ATN! in each header). Once decrunched, and joined, we get 5 packed music files, that are very similar to Protracker, save for the pattern data (and the "M.K." being replaced by "JS92")
In fact, only the note packing differs from Protracker. It is very simple and obviously done for replay matters.
Here it is :
Code: [Select]
0000 0000  0000 0000  0000 0000  0000 0000
 |       |  |       |  |  | |             |
  \     /    \     /    \/   \           /
    note       smp     empty    fx arg

I've written a small depacker, which src code is attached.

Well, that was it. Oh, and yes, the musics, while apparently known, are slightly different from the ones we (AMP) store. I'll add those once I get the chance.

Any question ? Feel free.

Files upload / Jorge.zip and other uploads
« on: December 25, 2009, 16:32:10 »
Hi,

Somebody tried to upload "Jorge.zip" on the FTP (20091110). However, it's empty.
Could you send it again ?

also, "Balcer [Luzers] - mod.ciemniejsze siury.pp" is by who ?!? Please, provide us with details :)

The file "FLUFFY BEARS - MUSICDISK3.ZOM" was added to Kestra here.
Unfortunately, it's all in Polish in there and I can't read that. There are two musics without authors. Any help would be appreciated, here.

Thanks

Sylvain
