General Discussion / Polish Magazine Music Compo

All,

 Now there's a fun story.
 Last week, Crown uploaded a big archive on the ftp (@Crown, please report where you dug it from !). Said archive contained a lot of musics coming with several texts in Polish. From the music comments it made sense this referred to a music compo that was setup by an Amiga magazine in Polish language.
 To make it short, the archive contains all that was received at the time (end of 1998), sending a last call and saying that the final results would be published around Apr 1999.

 I, thus, called upon Jazzcat for help ... and ... I received shortly afterward scans of those results !! (they are attached).

 So, here's where we stand.
=> most musics are already known
=> some musics are missing since the balance of what was shown by the end of 1998 was completed until the result were published
=> I've written the results as best as I could <- I need help fixing this :)
=> what "party" name could be used ?
=> what is the publishing date ? can't decipher said date on the scan (first page on the lower right bottom)

I've written about this on Demozoo Slack channel but it makes sense to have a forum entry to follow this.
I've tried to locate all the entries that were made in the Blacktron Music Compo 1998. From what I can see from their old website (at archive.org), there are more than 500 (!) entries , split in 6 categories. Unfortunately, the archive.org image doesn't store the entries themselves, as they were stored on an outside FTP site (ftp://skynet.stack.nl/pub/demos/bmpcompo2/). Said ftp site was note archived it seems.
So, my request : if anyone has a dump of this site, please give a call. Menace agreed to mirror this on scene.org if this somehow surfaces back :)

Support / Feedback / AMP is not working properly since 04/06

Hi,

 We face an issue with the whole public front end of AMP, where queries and basic browsing are not working. This is an unfortunate consequence of some technical upgrade that didn't go as well as planned.
 We'll fix this shortly, hopefully.

Audio Trackers & Players / ZXTune - chiptunes player

We were sent the following email today. So, here it is. Note that AMP team has nothing to do with this and any question/request should therefore be addressed to the author.
I, Asle, didn't have a chance to test this on Android, so I have no personal feedback to provide for that. The MS-Windows version is very slow, and that's all I'll say. Not sure this version is the goal, so ...

Ripping Amiga music / Up Rough musicdisks

 In the same spirit as the Confusion musicdisk discussion, I'm breaking my teeth on the various Up Rough musicdisks.
 Several examples are on Up Rough homepage.

 First, I can't even the damn things :) . Now, there's apparently an option, when running, to save the music being played. Even so, the musics are stored in sub-directories. However, they are encrypted. It's obviously a key, however, it's kind of a changing key.
 Anyway, tried several times and went nowhere.

 If anyone could help explain what I do wrong, that would be great.

Music Request / PC productions to rip

All right guys, there's some PC production I've been storing at home for later ripping (if possible). At the time I stored them, I tried to rip the music but failed for whatever reason, or simply didn't take the time to handle them.
I'm listing some of those here mainly to clear up my storage :) Also, maybe someone had a go at some of those and will save me the trouble .. heh

I'll update when needed depending on feedback. I'll add more also in time.

Ripping Amiga music / Confusion Musicdisk

I need help this time.
The production Music Disk by Confusion.

The NDOS disk contains several Crunchmania Address exe subfiles. If you overlook the DOS Copy issue, affecting the 4th subfile, all others decrunch correctly. However, once decrunched, the file containing musics have some sort of encryption on the pattern data.

I've attached one of these files.

I've checked the memory little, but it doesn't help. The patterns _seem_ to be decrypted somewhere but with another form of encryption. Well, as far as I could tell ...

Last, I'm quite sure it encrypted and not packed as the pattern data size (protracker wise) is as expected according to the patternlist. It's not shorter nor longer.

Anyway, if someone has an idea on how to proceed from here, I'd welcome hints :)

 Among the various uploads we have received, so far, one was called 'Appendix-ContagionModules.zip'. It contained all 5 musics from this demo (Contagion by Appendix - 1995). No uploader mentioned, though.
 Just wanted to say thanks because the ripper (VrS!) obviously adapted Prowiz to support this PP21 variant :). Result, however, is that two ziks by Lynx are added to AMP :

APX-Contagion_tunnel

The other three musics, by Slaze were already on AMP as original protracker:
MOD.imagination
MOD.malfunction
MOD.rainbow walker (this one, for the secret part)

Just wanted to clear out why those three were not added. It was a brilliant rip, so :)

And here we are. Yet another year has come and gone. 2013 was nice, but it's now 2014.

The usual "log" of what happened, here, follows:

1100+ authors were added and/or updated
100+ groups were added and/or updated
50+ pics were added

News wise, Crown has made some appearances throughout the year and 2014 could see his come back :). Curt Cool is lost somewhere in Australia. Nothing much to report for the others.

That's about it. Remains to wish you all a happy new year 2014, that, in the name of all AMP team.
