  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • My first computer was a Commodore C= 64, which I got from my patents about 1988. I used it a lot for gaming, tried to write my own little basic programms and ended finally up with cryptic data lines making the C=64 beep. I wouldn't call it music, but it definately was some kind of noise. And that time, the virus caught me...

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • C=64 - see 1)

A500, later on an A2000 - gaming, sound tracking

A4000 PPC - gaming, tracking, audio editing, internet, "standard business"...

Atari Mega ST2 - only for making music via MIDI on Cubase

PowerMac G4, meanwhile PowerMac G5 - mainly for composing and audio editing, but of course all standard applications (internet, office, etc...) als well

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • In fact I did do some GFX and I tried my luck with a bit of codig, but doing music always was 'my thing', so I finally left GFX and coding to the others.

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • Trackers:
ProTracker (mainly used this one), later DigiBooster Pro

    MIDI Sequencing:
Cubase 3.1 on Atari, replaced by Emagic Logic (all versions since V4) on Mac

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • Music is a never ending story, there's no track whith which I'd say I'd reached my goal.

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • There's a track I wrote for a game by Virtual Dimension - Dennis said "You should write another one - this one is crap". I guess he was right.. the track has never been released... :)

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • Ever turned off the volume when watching a demo? Music is the element which donates the "drive" to the graphics. It combines all video parts to one big show and adds it's own character, it's beat to the whole demo. Music is much closer to the heart than graphics, all the atmosphere of a demo (or of a game!) depends on the music.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Yes, I am. But I'm not tracking any more - I'm writing my tracks on Logic, with some synths and samplers and sometimes real instruments. Different style, different music. I'm still composing music for games, but not fulltime any more.

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • Different formats for different purposes. Sometimes it's unbelievable how great a 15kb General MIDI file can sound when it's well composed!

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • My alltime favourite MOD has ever been "Beyond Music" by captain/image, but there's so much damn good tracker music out there. Lizardking, Moby, Jogeir, Jester, all that Anarchy stuff... there was so much great songs out there.

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • That's not on my list by now...

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • I love all kinds of soundtracks (Williams, Zimmer, Howard, Horner, Podelouris, Elfman, Badelt... endless list), but I also do like other music like 80s rock, electronic music, classical music.

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • Lots of fun and many friends.

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • Every now and then we (Virtual Dimension) are working on a scene report video, which is at least "close to the scene", as these videos have always been of high interest. And additionally I hope to add again some tracks to the third Merregnon album, which has some kind of scene status as well...

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • I'd love to send greetings to Diabolic, Draconian, Hurrican and Tonic of Virtual Dimension and say a very warm THANK YOU for 15 great years.
