  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • The computer games started to interested me with computer, in the 80's. I remember
my first game, called "jet pack", on ZX spectum.

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • After ZX spectrum, I had an Atari ST, then an Amiga 1200.
I firstly played games, and I was interested in music on Atari with sountracker,
then on Amiga with protracker. I program little games too, (in GFA basic, on Atari)
and I made graphics for demos. I composed music much later.

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • I enjoyed the music possibilities of amiga's trackers, it was so fun to remix tracks,
play with samples. I like to transform my ideas into sound to create atmospheres.

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • I principally used protracker on Amiga. ).
I work today with the wonderful Jeskola Buzz music software, a sort of trackers with
synthetic instruments and a lot of crazy effects. It's hard to use, buggy, not nice,
but incredibly powerfull and with an active community of users on the net (and it's
    totally free :-)

Modplug tracker, renoise and milky tracker are nowadays good software too.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • My friends liked "beatdream" and "paradise", but my prefered are "inside", "brothers
& sistrers !", "skybass" and "under the mountain".

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • Not particularly. But with the time, I had a better technic, so my first modules sounds
    not really good !

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • It's as important as graphics and coding, but coding is really difficult and less fun,
    so respect to coders !

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Yes I compose for leisure, from time to time, and you can heard my tracks at:
www.myspace.com/julienthomas75. I made remix of music of the game "shadow of the beast
too : http://sotb.free.fr/index_fr.html (search at Julien Thomas)

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • I principally use the mp3 (just because it's the most popular). I think that amiga music
have something particular that I can't find in other music, maybe coz of 4 tracks limitation
    and stereo obligations.

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • I particularly love some old amiga games tunes, like Turrican and shadow of the beast (1, 2
and 3), and a lot of demos music (jesus on es, spaceballs's demos, music of lemon's slideshow,
and so one). I like a tune called "soundcraft impressions" by a musician called lemon, I
discovered it recently on AMP, really good tribal house sound !

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • I think to remix some of my old amiga tracks, it's in project. But make a cd . . . stop to
    dream !

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • I like and listen every sort of music : techno, hip-hop, classical, rock, ethnic… every
style. I think I have a priority for rhythmic tracks.

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • It gave me the taste of electronic music, and a friendship spirit.

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • I see there's always an amiga scene today, grace to emulation, and I sometimes make music
or graphics for demos or sites (really sometimes :-).

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • Well, i say hello to you who read this lines ! (ou salut si vous êtes francophone).
Amiga scene is still alive in the heart of old amiga users like me, and thanks a lot to
those people who continue to make it live (like in this wonderful AMP ;-)

I'm happy to see that the "amiga music spirit" seem's to follow with the new and
    perfected trackers on PC computers.

Hi to my friends TOD, Shen, Yogi and all others ;-)

and don't forget this : AMIGA RULES !!!!
