I had a Commodore PET at one point, and access to an Apple IIe. Mostly I did some simple game programming on these machines. My first machine was an A500 though, and I started writing music almost immediately in 1989. I've always had a passion for music, but the other areas do interest me a bit as well. I remember seeing a musical when I was about 5 years old, and I liked it so much that I came home and started writing it from memory on music paper. On the Amiga, I pretty much started with Deluxe Music Construction Set. A few years later, a friend introduced me to the MOD format. I downloaded MED from a local BBS and started writing tracker style music. I've also used OctaMED SoundStudio, Protracker, FastTracker II, MadTracker, Modplug Tracker, Buzz Machines, and Fruity Loops. Mostly, I use Buzz Machines these days. "Chronologic Foundations" was the first track that sounded 'professional' to me. I've definitely had quite a few not-so-good ideas, but nothing that I'm too ashamed of! I think the music helps to establish the mood of a demo or game.. it can serve to heighten the emotions brought forth by the visual imagery. I wouldn't say that it is more important than the other parts, but I would certainly have to say that many of my favourite games have excellent soundtracks. I'm still composing, mostly just for fun, but I am certainly interested in turning it into a full-time job. Technology is great. It's all about tearing down limitations and allowing an artist the ability to create whatever they can imagine. - "Desert Dream" demo soundtrack (Kefrens) - "Nine Fingers" and "State of the Art" soundtracks (Spaceballs) - "The 12th Warrior" by Bjorn Lynne - "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars" soundtracks by John Williams - The "Chono Cross" soundtrack by Yasunori Mitsuda - "Final Fantasy" soundtracks by Nobuo Uematsu Yes, I'm currently working on a CD titled "Explorer". It will have a few older tracks that have been rebuilt with better equipment. - Nectarine Radio - Mozart (does he count as a 'band'?) - Daft Punk, RUSH, Peter Gabriel, Alpha Conspiracy, Bjorn Lynne Lots of great memories, and lots of inspiration! I'm still writing the occasional MOD/XM file, and I'd still enjoy making music for demos. Greets to all my friends, fellow musicians, and former members of WesTower! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2005 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
