I was hooked instantly, playing such games as Vangard, Pacman and Megaforce. The doorway to computers and consoles had been opened for me. As mentioned, I started out with a Colecovision. Then eventually my parents bought me an Amstrad CPC 464. It was with this very machine I started playing with sound. Using the very simple "BASIC". Although being honest I spent almost all my time just playing games on it. During the course of the early 90`s I went through a few game machines. Sega Megadrive and Nintendo`s Gameboy. It wasn`t to be until 1993, when I was to have the pleasure of owning my very own Amiga. By 1994 I had joined the scene and started making music on Protracker. The rest is history up until summer 2002 when I finally decided to take down the Amiga and replace it with this PC. The truth is I did spend a lot of time playing with Dpaint, although certain people were very harsh with me and being at such a young age at the time I took what they said to heart and stopped drawing altogether. As for coding, I borrowed a few ASM books from the library, but returned them without even reading past the first few lines. Thats about as far as my coding experience stretches. I spent pretty much all of my Amiga composing time with Protracker. I played with Octamed briefly, but it always looked too ugly for me. Nowadays its fruity loops or nothing! Skaletracker on the PC doesn`t seem to bad. It`s hard to say, mostly down to the fact I don`t have any of my old modules anymore. My memory doesn`t serve me well. A hard question, I think probably most of them! I never really liked any of my music. Only a few chip tunes. I think music in a demo is the most important aspect. The music enables you to set the atmosphere and mood. With good sync, even a very poor and simple effect can look good with a good track played alongside. At the sametime, very impressive coding and visual work can be brought heavily down with a poor track. Yeah, still composing and purely for leisure purposes. I spend many happy hours in my own world composing new tracks. I`m sure I always will! I think mp3 has provided the next step foward in scene music evolution. The idea of using trackers to produce, modules or xm`s seems a little dated now. Although there is an obvious downside of the filesize with using mp3 or wave. Now this is a tough one! There are so many to choose from. Although one has always stood out. X-Ceed`s Mod.Nativity. Just watching it on Protracker sends a shiver down my spine. The technical skill is amazing and it sounds perfect. Another one, would be by Soul. His RAW diskmag module (issue #9). Can`t remeber the name right now. A third and final one, would be Brainbug`s mod.postludium. Everytime I hear it, it takes me on an nostalgic amiga scene trip! Well I have to admit pretty much all of Supernao`s also favourites. I don`t have any plans, although sometime in the future i`d love to release a CD. Maybe once my music reaches a higher level, I can begin to think about it. Air, Radiohead, Kraftwerk, Mike Oldfield, Gotham Project, Hybrid, FSOL, Aphex Twin, Skinny Puppy, LSG... to name a few. A new meaning of life! :) .. and years of an amazingly unique experience. Only on the PC scene. Currently in my most active phase since my first years! Warm greetings to: Wade, Some1, Reed, Booster, Sane, Skunkmasta, Genetix, Kuu, Ghandy, Phase1, Alive, Whiskas, Boo, Karlos, Teis, Optic, Jerry, Darkhawk, Raven, Swoop, Pix, Fusko, Dire, Zerox, Ramses, Kufa, Leunam, Nork, Powerslave, Dascon, Jessikaa, Farfar, Sal-one, everyone in Aerosol and Mangoo. Plus hand shakes to all I`ve known over the years in the Amiga demo scene. Finally respect to Crown for creating such a fantastic site! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2003 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
