  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • Well, in Christmas 1983, I got a computer, a Texas Instruments TI99/4a which
had cartridge ports for games, which I had 2, Yahtzee, and Parsec (very
original shoot em up which was HARD - they just do not make games this good
    anymore..... :( ) I didn't know anyone else with a computer, I hadn't seen
anything else like it. So from that point I was hooked and wanted more.

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • I had my Texas first, then in 1987 I got an Amstrad CPC6128 which was
amazing in comparison to what I'd had. This was followed by another Texas
from someone that didn't want it any more, I did actually have 3 of them at
one point but sold them to an enthusiast sometime after. I got my Amiga 500
in late 1989 after witnessing Blood Money at the local store about 8 months
before that. It was that game that made me realise that the Amiga was the
computer to have, so I saved for 8 months to get one, and when I did, I was
a happy man.... The Amiga was closely followed by a C64 which sounds strange
but it was being sold by a friend who introduced me to demos and had a very
good collection, so it was bought for my sister. I owned a Spectrum too,
which didn't work properly. I sold my (custom spray painted) Amiga 500 in
    1993 to buy a 1200 which I got a hard disk for, and a 1942 monitor. I got
really fed up in mid 1994 with computers, nothing seemed to be working
(scene things) at all so I stopped using it...... simple really. We still
have the C64 and Amiga 1200 along with my PC (hmmm.) Amiga OS really takes
the piss out of Windows - no?

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • I have always liked music, since childhood, so it was a natural progression
when watching other peoples demos with other peoples music; I wanted to be a
part of it all! I didn't however, have any musical talent as such, or
instrumental skill, I just loaded Soundtracker, and did my best. I started
with the original ST-01: and a disk full of Coldcut samples that seemed to
be in every Amiga production at the time. I didn't actually buy a sampler
until after 2 years I think! So I shamelessly ripped other peoples, and the
music started to evolve. It led to me being accepted in an group, Intuition,
who were based in Finland, with a quite nice English division. Although none
of my music was used (disbanded, to form Cyrus about 2 months after) I was
spurred on to make more. I did actually start to draw gfx using Dpaint, and
some logos / fonts were used in various intros, and I also tried to program
too. This proved just that little bit difficult though, and really it was
the musical side of the scene that I was being drawn into. I also went to
school with Elwood, who was one of the most talented demoscene artists in
the UK. It's a shame much more of his work was never released. He was very
productive, and we worked quite well together for some years as a gfx/music
    duo... (?)

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • I used to use Protracker on Amiga, I now occasionally use Fasttracker on PC
    - the sample quality seems real bad though for some reason... I have used
Cakewalk / VST / Soundforge on PC for midi + HD recording too. And Acid -
    Rebirth - Reality
    I used all sorts really.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • None in particular - I thought that the music I made late 93 early 94 was
most like 'musicians' tunes, you know, ones that musicians appreciate more,
but looking back now some music I made in 91 was better, more original, more
    me... .

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For What reason?

  • Haha.... that one in that Digital intro by Spook - it did sound a tiny bit
like one of Nuke's tunes.... Hmmm....
    Sorry !

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • It wouldn't be much without it.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Not at all at present. I have done various small projects since the Amiga
scene. In 1994, myself and a friend made some music using 2 keyboards, drum
machine, and computers, but it didn't last mainly to lack of interest. I
sold my keyboards and bought Technics SL1210's and started mixing records. I
sold my decks and got a car in the end.......... I bought a Roland MC303
which was nice but I rarely use it nowadays. I'm gonna make a No.1 hit
    record one day though!

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • The future is arriving............. Although people do persist in taking
    the piss

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • It is impossible to isolate certain pieces from all the quality music that
there is in mod format. Here are a few musicians I have a great amount of
    respect for ......

    Bruno - Uncle Tom - Walkman - NHP+BKH - Nuke - 4Mat - Blaizer - SLL - Grubi
    - Julius - Jesper Kyd - Audiomonster - Romeo Knight - Jochen Hippel

    and the rest.........

    ok and Heatbeat too...

And... I heard recently 'Austin Powers' by Muffler (Is he Heatbeat's bro'?)
which was damned fecking good. No - it was better than that. This is the way
    forwaaaardzzzzzzzzz.

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • Never, not with old mod music, possibly with new sampled music made on PC
and samplers. I strongly doubt this becoming reality however.

  • 12-What bands are you currently listening to?

  • Not many - shame.........

  • 13-What did the amiga scene give you?

  • The chance to make music for the peoplepeoplepeople. I always wanted to in
    some way....

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • No. I will make someone a demo tune though if asked........

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • Hello to anybody that vaguely remembers who me .........

    Chris (TNC) - Daddy Freddy - Richard E Groovy W Elmes - Elwood - Yaz - Flame
    - Coaxial - No.5 - Hollywood - Blancmange - Matrix - Chromag - Groo n' Ruff
