Some years later my parents bought me a C64. First, I collected games like all my friends, later the demos became much more fascinating to me, especially the music. My first machine was a C64, later an Amiga. I never did anything else with computers than making music or sometimes playing games. This did not change for many years. Later, when I left the scene I bought a PC, laughed and sold it. 3 Years later I bought a Mac and started a small recording studio in my flat. But I didn't earn enough to pay my rent... Now I have no computer at home and my favorite Operating system has changed to UNIX, especially FreeBSD. My Friends Frank and Bjoern(Excess/Analog,DCS,Rebels) and me have found an Internet Hosting Company (Bytecamp GmbH). Hmm... gfx or coding has never been interesting to me. But I can tell you why I stopped making music on a computer. It began, when I started working as Audio Engineer on live concerts. To me, its much more fun, yes really much more fun, to experience the music not alone at home, but with some hundred or thousand other enthusiastic people dancing around me. And my personal taste has changed during my studies. I don't like "constructed" music anymore, there's a difference between such music and the music grown in the heads of a band during lots of rehearsals. There's a kind of dialog in it, not a kind of dialog only between the instruments no, a dialog between different people, different ideas. I realized I never can do this alone. On C64 the Soundmonitor from Chris Huelsbeck. On Amiga Noisetracker, later Protracker. On Mac Cubase and ProTools. No one. In fact I only like my Chiptunes. Yes, there are some. A lot... But this is not a joke, I don't have ANY of my own tunes. If you have some of them on your HD, please send them to me, especially the chiptunes! The music plays the same role as it plays in films or shows. It creates a mood. No, I do not compose, but I work in my spare time as audio engineer on live concerts, sometimes even for stars. In the last 10 years I coached more than 500 concerts. The format does not matter any longer. Take the best you can. In the past we were restricted thru the possibilities of our hardware, but this made our music different, too. I don't remember the names, the chiptunes from mel'o'dee are great, Audiomonsters songs were revolutionary, hmm, I forgot the names, sorry. No, its not worth it. Korn, Portishead, Ruben Gonzales, Air, Creed, some Jazz, the MojoClub series, some downbeat and a loooot more. The feeling of a community, beeing somehow different. When I look back, I must say for young people around 14-18 its dangerous experiencing a community like th scene because its strong but not reality. Actually you are sitting in front of a machine. Meet your friends. Make friends. Computers are only tools. No, and I'll never come back for sure. Music is a tool, a very powerful tool. And it's beeing abused these days to polarise, to create small groups of custumers, so called "target groups". Think about yourself if you are already catched inside such a group. If you wear special clothes, if you listen to only one kind of music, if you identify yourself with one special artist and if you live the "special" lifestyle of your favorite artist, you are already catched. You are catched thru your own blinders. Open your eyes. If you like Rock Music doesn't this mean you have to wear long hair or a black t-shirt.
