Date of birth: 27.06.1971 I was 13 when I learned programming in Basic language. I have had no computer, so every friday afternoon and saturday morning I went to the local university, there was a practising room open for everyone with 4 HTZ-1080Z computers (Z80 based, basic interpreter) and 4 ABC80 (Swedish, the best Z80 computer). While university members were doing their jobs on HT1080Z, we were practising, programming, playing on ABC80s. That was the first "scene". (Do you know that ABC80 checks every FOR/NEXT pair and every GOTO after the RUN command but before starts the first program line!?) On ABC80 I wrote only one little song (who's familiar with ABC80 can say, that it's not too easy), and some tiny games, practises. I was 15 when I got my first own computer, it was a Commodore 16. The built-in monitor (direct assembler) was a big inspiration to do real programming work. On C-16 I've made two music editors, some musics with them, a game, some demo, some crack, lots of "unlimited lives" :-) . Later, I expanded it to 64K. I have never had a floppy disk unit, it was too expensive for me... I have had tapes only. Can you imagine it behind your PC with 2G HDD? None of above is strange for me. In civil, I was programmer (now I am comp. dept. leader, but I often do programming). I can't draw well, but I enjoy making my CD-covers, and they're so pretty :-) . Protracker (Amiga) for MOD; TFMX (Amiga); Cakewalk 3.01 for MIDI. I hate Cubase and later Cakewalks. What's the goal of a tune? If I make a lame tune, I delete it immediatelly. Anyway, I have some halfmade works; but I don't like halfmade things, I like to finish everything. Demo := Code + Gfx + Muzak; every component must be solve a common concept (called design). An average-coded demo with average gfx/muzak can hit, if it is well-designed. I've seen a demo on PC with only one effect; there was only a low-resolution grayscale picture rotator/wave and an FM music (AdLib!); the music is some kind of techno, and as the music getting hotter, the picture rotates and wawes more... that was all, but it's really hit! I forgot its name, the group's name is maybe Brainbug...? (Somebody may send it to me). 2 years ago my brother (PAT/Frame18) and me bought a synth, and we've just jumped into the world of Studio/MIDI. Today we're semi-professionals; we've made some mu$ic for TV-anims (also, one of the raytracer is a scene-dude too, called Hamlet), I'll write soon some musics for a game, and so on. My last module was the "Work Song" it has won cca. 4th prize at I dunno which party. I don't like prizes and competitions too much. If a prize is given by voting, then the most popular style will be the first, or the most popular musician. MPEG: Layer3 is a very cool thing... at 128Kbit/s it's very near to CD, it's even better than the analog tape and even cheaper and more compact. MIDI: I hate it and love it. It's high time to change. It's like MS-Windows: there's no alternative - yet. BTW if we hear a poor song in the radio, we say "it's General MIDI"! Jompha. It was in a cool old demo... 8 birds were moving on the screen, it was really mad. Dr.Dolf's musics - he's an Hungarian dude, and he made some art musics for Amiga. We have a demo CD with our first "studio"-songs, but there's no old Amiga-tune on this CD. Maybe we'll remaster some later. We made this CD for just fun, and to demonstrate our capabilities. I have a friend who was Amiga-musician; today he has a small studio, maybe we'll make something together. The current star is the Daft Punk. They don't lie us as Spice Girls, don't want to be "unplugged", "live", "natural" as say, Tina Turner, don't want to be "art" as David Bowie, don't want to be "gigantic" as Michael Jackson, they're just making the pop music of the end of century. They're original and their goal is to make music as they want and not to make money with music. If they think that it's a good fun to change the lowpass filter level slowly on the same pattern of music, then they do it, doesn't matter if it seems boring for somebody. BTW, the "Around Of World" video clip is really ART. As I said, I'm a comp.dept. leader; I have 3 collegues (I'm their boss), 2 of them are scene dudes... It's a lifestyle. 3 years ago, when I got my own flat, I met Rack (Gfx, Majic12) first in Gyor (where I live). I didn't know him before, because he was living in another city, I've seen just some of his pictures. He told me that he just moved to Gyor a half year ago, because he has a job here, and now he's renting a small dark, cold room. Then I said "come to my flat, there'll enough place for two sceners" - and we were 2 years together and we've made lots of fun. As I said, I had never seen him before, but I knew that he's a cool scene dude - it was enough reference for me. O.K., I must tell you that sometimes there was discussions in subject "who'll wash the dishes" :-) Maybe I'll release a new module for the next Hungarian party, because at the last party there was so many lame tunes... Greetings to all the few old C16 dudes and all the ABC80 freax! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2001 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
