Just the Amstrad before the Amiga. They hung around in a box attracting dust for many years before I had a ruthless moment and got rid of them. Well I came to music after coding and gfx actually. I started off coding in BASIC on the Amstrad, then LASER BASIC, then AMOS on the Amiga. I started doing graphics on the Amstrad too, and then later on DPaint on the Amiga. And finally I started creating music shortly after getting the Amiga. It was a nice surprise to discover Soundtracker and realise that anyone could make music. To start with I briefly used some 8 channel tracker I can't remember the name of, but that didn't last long. Then I discovered Soundtracker which felt much better. Then onto Noisetracker, and finally Protracker. I didn't get anywhere near reaching any sort of goal - there were a couple of tunes I wrote near the end my time in the scene ("Cyberville" and "Wonderland Parade") which I felt showed some promise, but then I stopped being active in the scene and as far as I'm aware they were never included in any production. "Chameleon" has an awful section with some dischordant piano. It was only the second tune I ever wrote and I never intended it to accompany a demo but it went out on some Digital production and I was mortified ! Well it's half the fun isn't it?I'm a professional games artist and it's always great when the sound gets added at the end of the project, everything suddenly feels alive. I haven't written a thing since I left the Amiga scene. I've been meaning to start writing again ever since I stopped but life got in the way. I *will* soon start writing some music for some small games I'm currently making on my own. Well I like that WAVs are much higher quality than the old 8 bit amiga samples. I just wish I could wave a magic wand and transform all my old amiga samples into high quality WAVs so I could use them these days. Nebulous by Audiomonster Memorydust by Codex Just Spank It by Firefox/Tip Disaster is Obvious by Firefox/Tip Enigma by Firefox/Tip Scrambled Mind by Heatbeat ...anything by Bruno, Uncle Tom or Walkman Time is so precious that I'd rather write some new stuff to be honest. Daft Punk, High Llamas, Stereolab, Divine Comedy, Mosquitos. It's a good incentive to finish things when people are waiting for them... Also the healthy competitive spirit was great, everyone was trying to do better than the other guy and it was exciting to see things advancing so quickly. I'm still really good friends with Spook too. No. Well hello to Spook and all the old Digital fellas (Acid, Yaz, No.5) and Lynx I guess ! Haha, it sounds funny saying those names again... :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2005 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
