    Date of birth: 07.06.1973

  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • In 1983 a friend of mine got a brand new Commodore 64 with a lot of games.
I remember we played the cartridge version of "Le Mans" a lot, and we also
made our own text adventure games in Basic. Two years later I convinced my
parents to buy me and my brother a C64 for christmas.

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • When I first got my C64 I started swapping games, in 1987 I started programming
machine language in monitor and I also painted my own pictures and logos. And
in 1989 I made my first sid tune. In 1989 I got myself an Amiga 500 which used
for music composing. In 1990 my father got a PC through his job which I used a
lot, but it wasn't until 1996 that I started making music in Fasttracker,
and today I am using my PC for both programming and music.

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • When I was programming demos, I needed some exclusive tunes for them, and the
only way for me was to make the music myself.

I didn't have any musical background at all, but with a lot of work and practice
I got pretty good at it. :)

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • On the Amiga I used Protracker and Noisetracker.
On the PC I use Fasttracker and Cakewalk.
    On the C64 I have used: Voicetracker (c) Polonus/Padua,
    Audiomaster (c) Scroll/Megastyle
    DMC (c) Brian/Graffitty
    Digitalizer (c) Olav Morkrid/Panoramic
    Sid systems (c) Geir tjelta/Moz(ic)art/SHAPE
Voiceeater especially written for me by Rolf/SHAPE
SDI (Sid Duzz'It) written by Geir Tjelta and myself.

The editor I have used most is SDI, mostly because it is the very best editor
    for the C64 ever made.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • That's not difficult to answer, the c64!

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • That have to be all tunes I made before 1993, listening to them
today makes me think "what a load of crap".

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • Game music should be original and it should suit the setting and atmosphere of
the game. However it's not always necessary having music inside the game, nice
background sound effects also gives the game something extra. I wrote the
sound effects for a game called "MOOD" on the c64 (not published), those sound
effects created a nice setting around the game.

Demo music of today are mostly timed to the demo effects or vice versa,
which is nice. A demo without music is like beer without alcohol to me.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Yes I am still making music, I am working freelance for protovision
(http://www.protovision-online.de) which manufactures games for the c64 and
super CPU. And I can be spotted with musical credits in disk mags and demos
    from time to time.

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • Hard to say, I often hear tunes I like and tunes I don't like.

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • Sure, I have 3 tunes that comes to my mind:
"GRG in Cyberspace" mostly because of the nice instruments I created
in that one, the song itself is weird.

"Quest" This tune is 10 minutes long, and I especially like the happy part of
    this tune.

"Day of the tentacle" have to be the best arrangement I've done.
And then there are a lot of coop tunes I did together with
other SHAPE members which are really nice.

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • No, that haven't crossed my mind.

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • I mostly listen to Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Tool, Pearl Jam, Live, Sting and
Metallica. And I have a secret mp3 dir on my HD with only trance music, which
I like to listen to sometimes.

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • Many friends, a few enemies, a lot of expenses and a little bit of fame.
  • 2-3 years ago I was played on a radio show in California, which was
  • a nice experience.

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • Well I do make some tunes for disk mags and demos, every now and then so I have
to say yes. The only contact I have to the scene is through IRC, and most
people on the IRC (#c-64) channel are old sceners that are idle.
But I try to visit atleast one copy party a year if possible.

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • Well, I would like to greet all people I have met and all friends I've made,
    especially:

Reyn, Jeff, Drax, HCL, Geir, Oswald, Olav, Henning,
Kristian, Eivind, Bacchus, Antitrack, Niels, Enno,
Crossbow, Dwayne, Oyvind, Rolf, Truls, Stefan,
Jazzcat, Xayne, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Edge, Duke, Metal,
