I was 8 years at that time.. 1 or 2 years later I typed down hexcolons from a magazine to get my first music program, it was soundMonitor by Chris Hülsbeck, which became program of the month in the C64 magazine.. after C64 and some VC20 experience I got an Amiga and started programming Pascal and C. Musically I switched to Sound-/Noise-/Protracker and Octamed.. This was my most productive time, talkin about Demotunes and such.. Because Commodore did not intend to develop soundchips, but steadily kicked out updates for gfx (ECS/AGA etc.) I decided to switch to PC, cause possibilities+sound (16 bit finally) were better with fasttracker and I wanted to get some knowledge about windows and stuff. I hated PCs until that time, I used a old 386 with 2 MB RAM for fasttracker only. I went more and more in the direction of makin beats to rap on, cause I loved HipHop at that time and wanted to release own tracks, not just doing computerMusic. Lateron I switched to Windows and I stuck with PCs since then, just because I didnt have the money to afford the MAC or something, not talking about hardware synth or samplers. Yet, audioapplications never ran well on Windows 95 and I occupied more time with techprobs, than with musicmakin. Somewhen I got the money to afford a better soundcard and with Windows98 2nd Ed. I finally got into being a little more productive again, but software, especially system drivers wasnt still what they were supposed to be,so I steadily switched environments cause none of them was really suiting my needs. I was using LogicAudio, Gsampler, Plugins and some external software, but it wasnt as good as working in an integrated environment like fasttracker e.g.. It was in the last 2 years when it really became usable. Win2k rised up and all audio stuff began slowly but surely workin on WDM platforms. Now Im using a Creamware Soundcard + Nuendo + VST and this is exactly what I need. I got my integrated platform again and everything is running very smooth.. Im into some projects again right now and finally found the fun in it again.. took a long time until PCs ceased to suck ;) Except music Im doing IT & Palm Programming to make a living.. I was fascinanted by Pianos and Keyboards since I was an early child, Coding was a thing that I was interested in lateron, but I never got as good in real time programming as others ;) so I focussed on musicmakin, since this was my native interest. - Soundmonitor - Protracker - Octamed - Cubase - Logic Audio - Fruity Loops - Nuendo (is the way to go.. ;) EvilHordes was my last track I ever did on Amiga, I wanted it to be my best and I think it really is. but theres not so many ppl who know it. I did some very bad tracks, but they all got something. theres not even one track I wouldnt like to remember ;) Music is givin just the biggest part of the atmosphere, if its demo, game or movie. That's what I loved about it all the time, and thats why I focussed on it so much. Im not producing professionally, its still just a hobby but Im working on it, now that it all works out and I finshed my exam.. ;) nothing special, really.. whatever format it might be, if its good its good ;) My absolute favorite tune on Amiga is still StreetGang by AudioMonster (from Melon) Of course, Im about to do that, but I dont want to release crap and I don't like to be commercial. That's why I didnt sell anything, yet ;) In fact I did some mastering on former amiga pieces, e.g.on EvilHordes.. Im really listening to everything that is sophisticated or good in any way. Especially Jazz, Classic and still HipHop and all derivates of it. (except RnB ;)) I never ceised to love fat beats, but Im not bound to ne direction.. It was just a great time, and the biggest deal of all was, that we stuck together and respected each other without judging by appearance or prejudice. We all had a common interest and we wanted to be productive. I felt "home" there :D yes, but in another way. Im only in 1 only community where I help out others and being helped whatever it might be. I was looking for a trustworthy community and I found a nice island in what became a swamp of scene, where foolish ppl, we used to and still call lamers are faking around, without respect and attitude. I lost contact to almost everyone in the former Amigascene, a lot of ppl just stopped and quit the scene, I never heard anything of em again.. I never did anything in the PC demo scene and pity I aint got no contacts there. But that may come.. :) Greetings go out to everyone who ever was or still is keeping up the scene and pushing it in the right direction, meaning contributing and sharing experience or whatever you got without expecting, teaching attitude at the same time. We all know that we're the heart of computer science and without the scene it wouldnt be like that. Special shoutouts go out to my man -sLw- who has been with me since the very beginning. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2002 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
