Date of birth: 1972 It started in 1984, when I first got my Commodore 64 for my Birthday. I got my Amiga 500 around 1990. * Commodore 64 : programming (demos, etc), music composing, playing games and some illegal stuff ;-) * Amiga 500 : Music composing and playing games mostly. I coded on Assembler 68000 for a while but stopped after a while. * PC (still own 2 currently) : mainly music composing, web site making and playing games. I code in my professional job (Web, Java, php, etc). Well the choice for me in the beginning was rather between making gfx and music composing. I started in 1985 to do a martial art game : coding was ok, making music was average, making gfx's results proved to be ugly. So I prefered to skip the graphic part ;-) On Amiga : former versions of Soundtracker and Protracker (until version 2 if I'm not wrong). On PC : ScreamTracker versions, until I got a Workstation Synth : since then I stopped using trackers and started to use Cubase VST. "Tears of Revenge". Sounds were ok for that time, but most of all I managed to do a slow starting music, with a good rhythm in the middle and a "sad" ending, like if it was telling a story. It's one of the tunes I was the most happy with the result. My really first ones : instruments were ugly, and my composition skills were really really bad... It's part of it. A demo or a game cannot exist without music, since music brings even more feeling to the images or the actions going on the screen. Imagine today watching a movie without sound or music... Yes, mostly for leisure, but trying to do it professionnally too. I'm preparing my first demo CD (check my web site for more info), and I'm already composing musics for documentaries from time to time. MIDI : technology which could be greatly improved, but still it's really great. I always use it, it helps me manage the sequencer on my computer, the external synths and my Digital Workstation (AW4416). Really helpful. MP3 : great technology, very useful to spread music in a low-sized format. Hard question, I've loved many tunes. On Amiga : most Jogeir Liljedahl musics. There are many others whose musics were really great, but cannot remember them right now. Sorry for those ones... Not currently, but who knows maybe one day if I have the opportunity... Why not. Mostly instrumental musics, like Vangelis, JM Jarre, Enya, Deep Forest, Darude, etc... Many things : learn about the computer world, to make music, to code, to work together with other guys on a project like a demo or a game, etc. Thanks to the scene and computers I've got a job I love and still manage to compose music for my pleasure. No. Greetings to all my former friends in the scene, especially on the C64 (I wasn't very active on the Amiga). Also, a BIG Thanks to all those great musicians on both the C64 and Amiga platforms that managed to do great musics despite low technical means, which I took hours and hours to listen to. And to you for reading my interview ;-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2002 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
