At first i had a sinclair spectrum 48k in which tried to program games in basic (with some outcome on my brother vic-20 and on a c64), then in 1988 bought an Amiga 500; at that time i started to do music, game graphics and animations, both in 2d and 3d. Following I owned an a1200, which I expended with a viper 030, 32k of RAM and a half gig drive. Next a power mac performa 6400 where I started work in macromedia director and flash and then two pcs: a celeron 1400 still in italy and my actual laptop p3/900. Actually i tihnk music came out spontaneously when I wanted to add it to my games, it was simply part of the deal, and i started to do some experiment with DATA numbers and a two voice assembler rouitine on the zx spectrum. Honestly, the pentagram approach has been a bit hard for me at first, and i overcome it only later, but still not completely :P . I started for simple leisure and the hope to use my music in some self produced game with Sonix in 1988, so i took confidence with the idea of making music on the computer. Following somebody gave me Sound FX: it was my first tracker program: was a bit hard to understand at first but guess introduced me in the tracker philosophy: i made some music with it using both samples from sonix, and some ripped ones from modules and games (opening sound files with audiomaster and cutting it one by one). At the half of 1989, when I went to know other people from the already existing group of Quazar,i finally got introduced to noisetracker and started making music with it. Depending what is the goal: the best module i ever made was for an animation: deimos02.3 (unreleased): i made it sound like a movie :) Or when I think i reached a good athmosphere, in example prova11-11 was a test (unrequested) for a dylan-dog style game set in japan called J-Japan; i tried to figure out a music that would sound like electronic and kind of the console/style harmony. My music usually is written under inspiration: i sit down and if i got any idea i start composing. Sometimes i liked to experiment: the (very old, was one of my second year soundreacker use mods) spring storm song (was for a beast style game) start with a drum-made rainstorm, like was performed from a live band. Or the laringogenerated song, where i made all instruments with my mouth and then put together Or the vaicollissiiooo song, guess the first and only liscio dance module ever :) Or some of the micro songs, trying to follow the (from me called) micro-instruments trend I liked to call my songs in the most curious way, one is called ACCO0118 because of the drive swap device of my old amiga 500: was looking I usually feel my goal reached when other people love my music Prova set 91 was so loved from one of the quazar team that was playing it loud for a week on its amiga: those are satisfactions :) The game Powder has been my main interest and my training field for the game music: we took 8 years to make it between changing of ideas, level reducing, improving, music change and so on.... ts-gecom: my last module: i started it never finished it and was also frustrated from the behavior of the numeric keypad on the 1200. Another that i dont like to remember wasone of my experiments, it came out very good but the floppy disk gave me error the day i saved it, i hate remember what I lost :( Music add atmosphere and meaning to the images: set up the emotional mood of the visual content. I stopped since a while, would like to start again even only for leisure I can perceive the old mod days strongly influenced the actual world: people never known or forgotten about what the mod scene was, but now its influence is everywhere. Almost everything from Chris Huelsbeck, ghouls and ghosts tune from Tim Follin, Guitarslinger and other music from Jogeir Liljedahl, cubulus tunes from Bjorn lynne (which I used most of the instruments: i loved it), lizardking, some tunes of Weasel, the sounfdtrack of Jaguar and Lotus 3. I would, but have the problem that my work is made by inspiration: once is done is finished; i hardly go back on a tune or a painting to retouch it, is the snapshot of the emotional idea. I love tangerine dream, Jean Michel Jarre, planet funk, japanese video game music (i have on my player the ridge racer type 4 and ridge racer 7 soundtracks), subsonica, Sakamoto, linking park, rip slyme (japanese hip-hop) and other stuff. Emotions: joy, frustration (on doing the games and the animations), hope, despair, friends :) Pityfully not. Am an husband now and earn my living working on flash and web applications. Want to greet all the quazar/powder team (Filippo carletti, Nicola Valentini, Marco Maltese, Tomas Paoloni), Max Santinelli, Denis del Bianco, Marco 'nAo' Salvi (now in San Francisco), Andrea 'ugolone' Mansella, the Dardari brothers, Mario Bruscella, Andrea Morolli, some of the RamJam I went in touch for a while, Fabio Barzagli, Leonardo Fischiagrilli, Fabio Arduini (my best friend),Tomas Armista, Giambellini Simone (high school friends), Massimo Tigrini, Fjodor, the fromer people of the Commodore Club Pesaro, my wife Maria (dont think she will read this), my brother, its daughter Angelica and other people I forgot about. Those were some of the best years of my life, thanks to everybody :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2008 by crown of cryptoburners |
