Interview
`n. .rP' `qb ,dP' TLb. ,dMP' all rite, now you get the chance to read TML.dMMP some facts about some of the major amiga ,nmm`XXMPX musicians. read about their history in ,#MP'~~XNXYNXTb. the scene and their plans in future.yes, ,d~' dNNP `YNTb. that's meant to be read while listening to ,~ ,NN' `YNb their modules. read 'em over and over and over.. dNP `Yb. ,NN' `b. · i n t e r v i e w · ___________ ______dP _____________ \ / \ ,N'\____ _____________. _____ \ \_____. ____\ / \___P___/ .\--\__ __/__ |--\____)---\ _____/__ |--\_ \ _/ | | | \ | | \__| | _ \ / | \__| | /\ | | _| | | _l_ | | \ / _l_ | ___| l___/=l___|====l____/===\______|==l______|\ /l___/===\______l____/ \/ Handle: Role Model a.k.a. Spleen (spleen^ on irc efnet) Group: Hack'n'trade Hangaround Date of birth: February 26, 1979 well... i still remember when my dad brought home a c64 in 1984, loved it from the start, but i don't think i got interested in using computers for other purposes than gaming until i watched "wargames" for the first time. don't know when that was, possibly 1986-1987 or so... just a kid by then. used that previously mentioned c64 for gaming & some basic programming. also used an amiga 500 - which i later replaced with an amiga 1200 - for programming, modeming, gaming and music making. i still use the a1200 occasionally, but only for making music... well... cuz i think it's so much more rewarding! you know, coding had a kind of incestous intellectual reward; one could get famous in the scene world by being smart and tricky and taking advantage of the latest techniques, but no one outside the scene would understand why the moving dots & blobs on the screen were that cool. music is the extreme opposite, cuz anyone can relate to a sound or a harmony in just a matter of seconds... it has such a impact on people! awakes feelings, expectations... probably one of the most efficient wordless ways of communication that exist. still amazes me. musicline editor is my main program on the amiga, but i've also used various versions of soundtracker & protracker. i've never had an outspoken goal with making music, but i think that "lemon soda" is the first that felt like a "real" track... some of my old protracker modules are pretty embarrasing, but luckily i've grown old enough to find them amusing... :-) a bad tune won't destroy a demo or a game, but a good tune will certainly help it becoming legendary - who would've remembered "commando" for it's gameplay only? also, there's no easier way to add a particular mood into the product... just think about the "last ninja" games; i'm certain that they wouldn't have been half as enchanting without the wonderful music. yes, i am. for leisure purposes... i think that everything's getting better, actually. well, i have a feeling that i shouldn't reply to this, cuz there are so many wildly brilliant tunes that i will forget to mention... but regarding the c64, i guess that gametunes like those of last ninja 1+2, international karate and bubble bobble have influenced me a lot. i won't even mention the amiga or c64 demo scenes, cuz i think they have produced such an incredibly big amount of brilliant tunes that i'd make a fool of myself just mentioning a few... done already. check out http://come.to/bleepstreet/ ! this week's favourites are drexciya, green velvet, young marble giants, motorbass and add n to (x)... today, it gives me nothing but nostalgia... but the amiga scene gave me a lot in it's heydays. i was totally in love with the amiga demo scene during 1989-1995, it was a showroom for creativity & talent unmatched at the time. hopefully, the internet will turn into something similar. i've never been a scener, actually... but i might make some tunes occassionally. besides from that, i also maintain the "musicline appreciation society" site, located at http://shuffla.lite.nu . shouts to the womb, kopril, ageema blues & the entire hack'n'trade posse... lookin' good y'all! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2001 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
