    old- Chronos

    Group: ex- Magnetic Fields

Date of birth: March 6th 1973

  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • 1982 Sinclair ZX81 with 16k memory.

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • 1984 Sinclair 48k Spectrum.
1987 Atari ST - Started writing MIDI music (using a hacked copy of Steinberg
Pro 24 given to me from Ben Dalglish!).
1989 CBM Amiga - Started writing .MOD music using SoundTracker. Joined UK
based Amiga group Magnetic Fields, alias Chronos

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • The sound quality from the CBM Amiga was so good, who could resist writing
    some music for it?!
I actually did do some of the graphics for Mad Professor Mariati for
    Krisalis.
I do code now, ASM and C. Wrote a PC arcade game in 1997 called 'Super
Jarvis XL', and various little sound tools.

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • Right now I'm using Studio Vision Pro for the Mac. Cakewalk Pro Audio and
    Sound Forge for PC.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • My personal favorite Amiga music is for Soccer Kid. Small size, tight and
    console sounding.

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For What reason?

  • Most of my CBM64 stuff, it was shit. Mostly due to Pete Harrap's useless
    sound driver.

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • I always look for audio that pushes the technology envelope.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Working freelance right now for the Studios around Hollywood.

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as

  • mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?
I think MIDI is dead. Multiple digital audio streams will be the next big
thing for games. True CD quality -interactive- audio!

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favorite tunes?

  • Ghouls and ghosts - Sega Genesis and CBM64
    Super Shinobi - Sega Genesis
Spider Man vs X-Men - SNES
    Sly Spy - Amiga

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • Yes, a compilation of Genesis music. CDROM containing 9-10 hours of MP3
    music.

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • Radiohead, Beatles, Corduroy, Beck.

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • The important step up from scene musician to professional game musician.

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • No.

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • My friend and old boss Shaun Hollingworth for all his hard work in writing
great sound driver for the Sega and Nintendo consoles.
