Back in 1991, my uncle gave me a sound card straight from the production floor he was working at. I could remember the moment when games finally comes with sound. Was about to get used to Adlib (polyphonic) sound until I heard MODPlayer. MOD sounded so realistic then and my interest caught on. Back then, it was a 80286. But MOD player didn't do well on that PC. Finally convinced my dad to get a 486DX-66. That's the the ultimate at that time. Windows was never in the picture. We had to be fluent with DOS. I was already coding at that time. But with only BASIC language that I knew, it wasn't easy to produce fast code. GFX didn't wasn't in my consideration. Instead, I turned to music which is my interest and there was a over-whelming demand for them. A BBS SysOp (Teck Chee) helped spread my music across the world and I received extremely encourging mails urging me to write more music. I had switch between several traking tools. But the final tracker I used was FT3 (Fast Traker). Hoped there was another one for windows now. Misty Heart was my favourite. The climate built up extremely well, sending chills down my spine. It hasn't lost it magic even till today. I guess the first was always a regret. As quality and skills improved, I hid the first few releases hoping that they don't tarnish the reputation I had established. Din't even want to mention it now. :) Music is 50%. Try watch a horror movie without sound -- the movies feels more comic than scary. Same goes for the famous Titanic. The magic is gone. Rarely. Tools are gone. They are of excellent quality. That make a comeback difficult. Had to fight with professional pieces to gain ground - difficult. It's been a while and my collection got eaten by fungus on the 3.5" disks. But future crew certainly did the scene proud. I like their works. I certainly like to. But who's interested?? :) New Age are clsoe to heart. David Lanz plays excellent piano and Suzanne Ciani compose smooth tunes. It gave me lots of self-esteem - something employers nowadays are stingy about. At least I knew I was good before. It earned me some good friends too, especially the team that organised demo competition in Singapore. Hope to.. but where's everyone now? If only I could find modern treking tools. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2003 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
