It didn't take long until we all had Spectrums and the older brother's interest in assembly programming soon caught us all and we became computer freaks! As mentioned before, it all started out with a Sinclair Spectrum, followed by a Sinclair QL, an Amiga 500, 600, 1200 and from there I became a PC traitor and still am. I run a software company nowadays developing software components. I actually became a coder due to my music. After playing with Soundtracker by Karsten Obarski on the 500, I wanted to broaden my possibilities by getting a synthesizer. Since I did not have one, I decided to turn my Amiga into a synthesizer. That later resulted in the softsynth songs for the PC intros Stash and Jizz for PC. Soundtracker was the first one and me and my friends spent hours and hours playing with it. Then it was Noisetracker, ofcourse, for several years. I also got sponsored by a commercial tracker developer of which name I unfortunatly cannot recall. After that I used Fasttracker. I still figure Excellate.mod is a pretty cool one! :) But I guess the PC intro tracks (eg over2bg.xm and bluishbg.xm) are the most famous nowadays. The bg stands for big since they were calculated at a slightly higher sample rate. I actually only released six tracks, of which two were anonymously so there is not much to choose from! :) I belive it is very crucial, something that modern game developers have come to realize. Imagine watching a horrormovie without music or sound, it's plain boring. I've worked a whole lot with sound and yet I am very impressed by the sound effects in games such as Doom 3 and Halflife 2. It may not be the music but sound in general. I still claim to be composing but as a matter of fact nothing really happens. I am too focused on making all sounds by own code and therefor I tend to be bored as things develop too slowly. But who knows, who knows.. ;) Sorry to say, there's just so much crap, and it's been like that for quite a while. It is virtually impossible to find good stuff since so many morons spew out zillions of painful tracks. There should be a censoring commitee! :) It takes too much time finding the goodies so I've almost given up. Oops. My memory fails me. The music from Turrican 2 was really amazing. There was a track called Space Debris that I was really impressed by too. A friend of mine called Axel Hedfors (now professional musician called Axwell) was totally unknown but a great talent, I just admired his skills with the drums in particular. There are no such plans at the moment. I have no idea. My cravings for good trance and house music prevail and thus I try finding good internet radio channels that pumps it out. I don't know any names at all. The C64 scene gave me a pain in the butt since I was a Spectrum user, but when I switched to Amiga, it gave me very very much. It was my primary hobby using it and the scene was a great inspiration. It forced many tracking and coding hours onto me and that basically gave me the position I have today and I enjoyed every second of it. It simply was a great time during which I found new friends, skills and insights. I wouldn't mind going back to 85! No. We have some communication within TBL and VD but nothing much. Ofcourse, all TBL & VD guys, Alien, Jace, Dr Skull, Balance, Nix and more. And all of the great people I have come across over the years! Cheers! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2005 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
