I had an Amiga 500 in 1988-1993, then I got an Amiga 1200 that I still have. I didn't use the Amiga since 1996... No power-supply! I always wanted to do music since I was a kid. I played a violin around 1983-1986. My dad has some electric guitars that I tried, and my grandparents had an old piano. As I heard "One Man & His Droid" by Rob Hubbard on the C64, I decided I wanted to make music on that machine aswell! The only reason I made all my C64 demos, was to use my own music! On the C64, Soundmoitor, Rockmonitor, JCH, SDI. On the Amiga, Soundtracker, Protracker, Noisetracker, OctaMED, Oktalyzer, and all the various synthetic-sid-emulating monitors. Mostly I used Protracker 2 from Cryptoburners. On the PC I used FastTracker II, but that won't run anymore on a Windows XP.. I've never reached my goal, although I have gotten better and better, I just keep setting higher standards for myself - so it is an endless evolution. My ultimate goal however, would be to score a full movie. I'd probably have to do the movie myself also.. No, I love all my tunes - they are mental images of the moments in which they were made - I like nostalgia. Mostly underrated I think. A good movie is only good because the soundtrack complements the story and pictures. Same with a demo - music written especially to interact with visual effect are really 50% of all the magic. Yes, but not as often as I'd like. There seems to be a shortage of good editors for the PC these days. I'm trying out Skale-Tracker. I make music for fun and for my goal of once being able to make a movie-score. To do that I make as many different styles as possible. If you hear my MODs, you'll notice they are all very different. I do have a tendency towards long sweeping themes though. (this must be because of the movie-composer hidden in me..) Most of it is crap! I only buy movie-soundtracks and Jean-Michel Jarre and Mike Oldfield. The best computer-composers, are those who have experience with programming/trackers, small development possibilities in the beginning, like old C64 composers. Small limits, make people make more complex sounds and rich melodies. The more digital channels they have, the more the music sounds like copy/paste sampling. Just listen to everything that Rob Hubbard has done. Jerry Goldsmith, Jean-Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield.. I have a large collection of classic Amiga MODs, and I know them all by heart. My favourite MOD composer is Seppo Hurme (Fleshbrain) He did the most complex things in the early days. Yes, I've already made one CD with the best of my XM modules, but I am working on remastering the oldest MODs. I don't listen to bands, only multi-talented artists. Something to do, entertainment, work, joy! Yes, it will never stop! Take the time and listen to my music, you will see that I developed over the years, and released a new tune roughly every 1.7 months To all the composer out there: BE ORIGINAL, BE YOURSELF! ..May the force be with you ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2005 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
