  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • Don´t know which year exactly it was. But all started in the time the C16 came
up. I think i was 13/14 years old.

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • My first Computer was a Commodore C16. The first thing I did was playing games,
but later i was interested in how games were created. And so i started a little
coding. But that was not really my thing.

The next one was the C64. I mostly made grafix with this one. But when i
bought my first Amiga, i was fascinated of the grafix and music possibilities.
I had an A500, an A2000, and my last was an A1200. I made lots of tunes with the
Amiga and made grafix for some Atari(!) Demoscreens and just for fun.

Now i have a PC. I started studying grafic arts in 1998 so today i use my
machine mostly to make grafix. But from time to time i still use it to record
    bandstuff...

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • I don´t know exactly, but making music with computers had the greatest
fascination on me. You could create a band that plays exactly what you want.
And it was the best way to express your feelings.

By the way: In the days i had a C64 i recorded all cool gametunes to tape and
listened to them on my walkman while others listened to the latest chart hits :)

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • In the past i checked out nearly every Tracker that was released on the Amiga.
I started composing with Soundtracker (The mother of all trackers :). The last
tool i used on Amiga was the Noisetracker.

On PC i used the one and only Fasttracker. Today i use Steinbergs Nuendo for
harddiscrecording, Fruity Loops and some other little proggies just for fun and
    for band purposes.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • Oh, i think, when you make art in any way, then there is no goal. You finish
one piece, then there are new ideas you want to realize and so on. I think
it´s equal on what you work on, the thing you work on right now is always the
    "best you ever worked on".

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • When i listen to some very early tunes i think: Ohoh. But, no, there are no
tunes i like not to remember. Every tune stands for the time it was created
in, it has it´s own story. And it´s equal how bad a tune is, it carries
    personal memories. That´s cool.

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • Just watch/play a demo/game without sound, and you know it!
It gives the games/demos the unmistakeable athmosphere. I think more than the
grafix can do. (Have you played Diablo? It has one of the most impressive
Soundtracks i heard in a PC game. Without the sound i think i didn´t have
    played it to the end)

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Yes i do. But as times changed, i more and more played guitar and composed
stuff for a real band. ´98 i found the right guys and so we founded the band
Silveretta. We make indierock and that´s the direction i want to go in the
future. It makes much fun beeing on the road playing gigs and to meet other
bands and other nice people. For people who are interested in our bandstuff
    just visit www.silveretta.risky.de

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • In the past, making music with computers was an art of it´s own. Today anyone
can make sound in any way (and format) they want to. I think the way of making
music and the interactivity between the programs has changed in a positive way...
By the way: I think MP3 is the Future.

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • There were many tunes that rocked, but some of my alltime faves are
Out of silence, Overture and guitarslinger by jogeir Lilljedahl, Garbage
collection by Peter Salomonsen, Clone it by Hunz... The tune in the Fruitkitchen
    Demo by Scortia.

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • I often thought about it in the past, but i don´t think that anybody is
interested in this stuff. It would be too much work to remaster this stuff...
and i think, these times are over. The songs of the past should be left
untouched, even if they are unfinished. They are what they are: tracked songs.
And hey, they are archivated in some cool sites like AMP...

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • Today i mostly listen to handmade music...mostly (indie)Rock/Pop stuff. But i
had my times with Acid-Jazz, Bigbeat, 70s Progrock, Vangelis...
But some of my fave Bands right now are:
Motorpsycho, The appleseed cast, Elliott Smith, Mock Orange, Chavez, Sans
    Secours...

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • A really cool time. It was the fascinating big-family feeling and the feeling,
that you make creative things instead of wasting your time. Another cool thing
was: You were another person, you could give yourself a cool alias. I loved it.

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • I stopped using trackers ~1998, but from time to time i still make sound for
the scene. But that´s one song in a year or so. The last release including a
song by me was the "nature still suxx" demo by federation against nature (FAN).
And at the moment i´m working at the soundtrack for the latest FAN-production
which will be released at this years Mekka-Symposium.

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • yeah: check out our Bandpage www.silveretta.risky.de
