Then one of my other friends bought a PC (286) and that was so cool that I wanted a computer of my own too. I think it was 1991 or 1992 when santa brought me my first computer. My first computer was pure vanilla Amiga 500 without any expansions. I used it for a year with 0.5 ram but finally santa (again;) brought be an expansion card. I played games a lot and nothing much else. (I was just a kid then.. ;) Of course I played a bit with DPaint too. I knew nothing about the scene by then. In late '92 I found a Protracker and started composing with it like a madman.. Then I bought my A1200 which I still have. I have always been pretty musical person and I've played various instruments a little. I do can draw a little too but I don't like doing pixel gfx 'cos it takes so much time. Making an average tune doesn't take even half of that time. I get bored very easily for making just one work for long time, so I chose the music career. And why didn't I choose coding? Well, I think I'm just too dumb to learn any programming language.. I have coded "a lot" with Amos Pro thou =) (try to find any nutty prods by Rozware..;) Maxtracker, Startrekker, Protracker 2.xx-4.xx, Octamed Soundstudio... There are dozen different proggies I've used. But my personal favorite is still Hearttracker. And if I want to do multichannels, I use Octamed Soundstudio.. Hmm.. well, maybe it was my last year's Abduction'98 compotune which came 4th. Unfortunately I can't remember it's name.. I think that was some kind of goal for me to reach that high at some compo. Or maybe it was back in Abduction'94 when I had just composed a year and my tune (mod.universum) was played in the compo and it came 8th. 'Boy did that feel good by then.. (though the other tunes were not so good either.. =) Or maybe it was the one that I made for assembly'98 demo by Cirion (mod.mark tv).. I haven't made much music for demos, and "Aromacolor" was a good one.. Oh, there are so many goals in my "career"..=) About everything made before '95 .. =) No really, I still enjoy listening to some of my tunes from back '93, it's so nostalgic. I sometimes even wonder how good some of the are.. (i mean not good in that way but good from a composer who has made music only for few months).. But yes, there are plenty of horrible ones too! Bad music can spoil and has spoiled many good demos and games. I think good music is as important as good graphics and good design. I don't think that the code has to be unbelieveable, if the mood is good. I prefer the old school more than the new one... But yea, music is important. Well, 'cause of the circumstances I compose mods only every now and then, mainly for some purposes like demos, intros and stuff, but also just for my own pleasure. And the reason is that my HD controller broke, my 2.1G hd stopped working with it and I had to sell it.. now I've got just a 105 MB hd with no samples in it, so I have to sample everything from my collection of FM sample ceedees.. And besides, it's my last year at school, and it keeps me pretty buzy. But I'm looking forward to buy a new amy in the future so I can continue my composing with the full power ..=) Well, actually I compose more with my MIDI equipment nowadays, mainly for my live rave performances. MP3:s are too big for me, they eat too much CPU and they kill the record companies.. yea, they are cool ;D Hmm, isn't "wave" just another sample format.. eh? Well I still love the tune from Phenomena's Enigma demo.. And all the classic tunes by Moby, Lizardking & co. will never die. From this moment's artists, I like Revisq, Mortimer Twang, Substance & all the other"good ones".. ;) Mods? I could never put any sucking 8 bit quality tunes on CD and sell it.. And I think I wouldn't re-make any of them for the real equipment neither. I don't like digging old things, I prefer composing new stuff. But you can expect my "real music" on a cd someday, I can promise that! Oh boy, that's a hard one.. a finnish blunt-house master Jori Hulkkonen is probably my favorite at the moment, and I also like Hardfloor, Christian Vogel, Jarre, Chemical Brothers, Bhusta Rhymes, Björk, Trio Töykeät, Daft Punk, George Michael, Queen, Snap, Prodigy, Plasticman, Wink.. etc.. I like almost everything except dr. bombay et co.. :P The scene has given me a lot.. I've recieved plenty of new friends and made many foreign contacts .. It's nice being a part of a "bigger society".. ;) Not much.. I kind of quitted swapping due to my computer crash but I still make tunes for scene stuff like demos & co... We're trying hard to get Rave Network Overscan some fame by releasing some quality stuff for a change.. ;) And that needs some activity.. You can find me from irc from channels #amigafin or #amigascne pretty often, that's where I'm trying to get the latest scene information from. The 'net is my last hope, 'cos I'm too lazy to start swapping again.. I want to send warm greetings for all the friends who has inspired me and sent me "fan-mail" and helped me during my scene- and real life. And hi for all the posse at IRC and my dear groups RNO, FIT & RE(hello, are you alive in there?!?) And the final word for those new composers who upload their tunes to aminet.. PLEASE, stop uploading complete crap! Listen your tune at least two times and think hard do you ReAlLy want to spread it.. I mean it's great thing to compose and it's dull if no-one ever heards your stuff, but still, it's better to be known as a composer who makes at least average tunes than a composer who makes bulshit. Aminet is already full of bulshit and I really don't download any unknown tunes anymore because of the bunch of crap tunes there are done by unknowns... That's why it's rather hard to get known via aminet these days. But keep on composing dudes, practice is the best teacher! And a final final word, stop using those ST-01-samples, please.. I even think ripping other people's samples is better than using those silly sounds.. :P P.S. Check out the aminet dir mods/roz and tell me what you think.. ;D ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2001 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
