Date of birth: 4th of june 1974 I first got a Commodore PET (Personal Electronic Transactor) at the age of 6. It was my dad's old computer, he got a brand new CBM, and I got the old one to play games on (Miner, Dam Buster, etc.). After a while he got an Apple, and I got the CBM (with floppy drives!) so I could put all my games (100) on one floppy :). I got an Atari 2600 after that so I could play games in color and on the TV. After that I got a ZX spectrum, but I didn't do much with it. After that (the list goes on) I got an Atari ST, and a couple of my friends had them as well, so we started swapping stuff, and hacking our way into other group's scrollers (The EXcepetions, Delta Force, ULM, etc.) and generally started to get into the scene a bit. After a while we actually made stuff by ourselves, I did music and graphics, and two other guys did the code (Vinnie, who's a hotshot programmer somewhere now, and Miq, who's still remained one of my best friends to date). We produced two musicdiscs and a 3-channel tracker called Trisound, which never really took off. In those days I was known as Wiz. (People still call me that from time to time.) At the age of 15-16 I got my Amiga, since I saw people work with Dpaint and Protracker, which was in a different league than Degas Elite, and the trackers then available on the ST (Although we never admitted that to those amiga-lamers. Our machine was 8 mhz, theirs was only 7.14 :D) Protracker was the bomb! 4 hardware channels sounded so much better than all that emulated shite I was used to. I started doing loads of tunes, and I joined a group of people who were into the scene, sort of. They were called the Magiclords, and we never, ever produced anything. At least not that I know of. Apart from the packs and their menus. They were spread by the illustrious Mr. Doom, better known today as Astro (of R.A.W. fame). About half of the Magiclords is united into a company started up by Astro, called US Media (http://www.usmedia.nl). After a while I got a call from the well known Facet, he was starting to trade with his own pack-series (hah! for every 20 disks he got he sent out 1 reply. lazy bastard.) and he asked me to do music for it. From there on I've been his scene side-kick, up to this day. We formed the holy alliance known as Lemon, which started out as an anarchy-does-melon-ripoff joke, but when anarchy died it was actually formed, and it hasn't died since. We just don't produce, we still stay in touch (sort of). We've been in other groups, in which we made more friends (Spaceballs, Virtual Dreams, TBL) but we never considered ourselves non-lemon. We jumped ship at the right moment, when Amiga died (give it up guys, it was nice while it lasted.) and we are now all proud PC users. On the PC I've met with Fasttracker 2, which is the last music software I ever used, since I got into Lightwave 3D and my graphics side took over completely. I haven't done any music for 2 years now, I might take it up someday again, with all these nice music tools floating about, but I'm seriously heading towards a career in 3D animation, which has become my proud passion. I haven't got a clue! I think I'm severly overrated. I feel they're all missing something, and not a single one has a 'finished' feel to it. Nope. I kinda like 'em all. In my position as animator it makes more sense to see it in such a context. In my opinion sound is about 60 % of the experience one has when watching a film or animation. Music or ambient sound makes the mood, but effect sounds are the single most important aspect in rendering an experience. no shit. Well, mpeg is nice (I got loads), wav is okay I guess for uncompressed stuff, midi sucks unless you got all the gear to go with it. I'd rather not go into my favorite sound format. Well, my current alltimer is Bambaata by ShyFX. Whenever I hear it I cannot help myself and I must dance. On a listening side, I kinda like the new Beck, I'm listening to that right now. No. I'd be silly if I'd do that. It's like renting all-time favorite movies, they suck when you see them again.
