When video games became more popular, in 1988, I wanted my own computer and I got a C64. I wasn't disapointed! C64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200 and pc. With the C64 I mainly played games but I also did my first graphics with koala painter. I had to draw them with my joystick with a palette of 16 colors. I even try composing sid tunes with the 3 channels of the machine. i can't remember which utility I used for that! On amiga I discovered the Scene and Demo World. I gradually stopped playing games in order to save all my free time for Noisetracker 1.0 (and the famous ST-01 disks). Meanwhile I was often loading Deluxe Paint 2 in order to make some graphics. Of course I kept on doing that on the A1200 but I mainly did gfx with it (Deluxe Paint and Lightwave) leaving Protracker aside. When I turned to PC I left forever the composing world to concentrate on pixel work. I only tried a bit Fasttracker with my Gravis Ultrasound. I have always been attacted by artistic activities and I never got interested in coding. I started with composing and it seemed pretty logic to me (my father is a very good musician). I can't read the note but still computer was the perfect tool for musical expression. :P I started with Noisetracker, it took me long to understand how it worked jai mis pas mal de temps pour comprendre comment ca fonctionner exactement. First it doesn't seem easy, especially with my low capacities in english (I was only 16 at that time) When composing I have always had the same problem: I have started a lot of tunes but I did not manage to finnish many. As soon as I had tracked the melody, the music style or anything particular, I had reached my goal and lost all motivation for ending the music. I spent a lot of time in composing -loose my heart- which was presented at the Saturne Party 2. I also like most of my tixtunes. None in particular. I think it should be considered as more important. A good demo hosts 25% coding, 25% graphics, 25% music et 25 % of cool ideas! In games, music is too often left aside, doesn't have the place it deserves. And that's really a pity! When you come to the conclusion that you can't be good in everything: average in doing graphics and average in composing you end up having to take a decision. I decided to keep on doing graphics for companies. It's faster to draw than to make quality musics. I must admit that the lack of free time has also taken a part in my decision to quit composing. No opinion on that matter! It's hard to say. I have some composers who thrilled me with their tracks. I will only mention the amiga period as it is the richest and most novative. With the domination of pc, talent and melodies are none. I must confess that the amiga microcosm had its top 10 best musicians and france was well represented. First: Audiomonster (he handled any music style with great melodies), then NHP and BKH, Reflex and Moby. For the non french composers, I am a true fan of Walkman, Bruno, 4-Mat, Jogeir, Tip and Mantronix, Dizzy and last but not least Heatbeat. Music is no longer part of my activies. I don't have spare time anymore. -- All :) Nope, doing professional design/gfx. I would like to send my regards to: Audiomonster, Hof, Gengis, Made, Skal, Clawz, Z, Djamm, Conquest, Wheely, Neptune, JumboBurger, Walt, Mac, Reflex, Gandalf, Cafeine, Ben, Alex, all Oxygen members, All Ex-Anarchy members and a special thought to Spiral and Vodka who left far too early! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2006 by crown of cryptoburners |
