  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • My dad bought an Atari ST in the late 80's for work. I wasn't really
interested in it. When my father finally bought himself a new PC I got
the Atari, that was in 94 I would say. Of course I only wanted it to
play games, I didn't know of its other capabilities yet.

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • I had an Atari ST, used it mainly to play games (and watch cracktros!)
and to draw monochrome graphics. When I got a PC in 96 I started to learn
about coding a little bit, in 97 I even coded a chatterbot of my own. But
I didn't really get much farther with coding.

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • I never got any support in learning to code and never had the courage and
tenacity to learn democoding all by myself. But who knows what the future
will hold. And graphics - you've touched a nerve there - I consider myself
absolutely untalented at GFX. So, music was the thing to do. After all, I
had been collecting modules for a long time, and some day I just decided I
wanted to be able to create them on my own.

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • Impulse Tracker is what I started with, and I still use it. In my opinion
it's still one of the best trackers nowadays as it is completely keyboard
controlled. For a co-op I've tried out Fast Tracker, but I must admit that I
    don't really like its interface.

Other trackers I've used are Buzz and GoatTracker (a C64 tracker). I'm
waiting for the public release of Xtracker32, I think it might really be
    an option.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • That's certainly "A Sinister Mind", created for Flag01 party.

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • There's too many of them :) But any musician knows the feeling that
sometimes you make a tune, adore it while you create it, and when you listen
to it 2 days later you think it's total crap.

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • Music in demos and games is of great importance to me. Music sets
the atmosphere, and if it is bad it can mess up the whole demo/game.

On the other hand, demos which have their music synchronized to the effects
    is just great.

In general I would say that it's always great if visuals and music are
combined, and exactly that's the case with demos and games.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Of course I'm still active, and I plan to remain active as long as tracking
    is fun for me.

I almost only track for fun, even if I would actually enjoy tracking for
money :) I also am an employee of a local movie company, but they don't
really need much music, I only created one tune for them so far.

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • I really enjoy the MP3 format, it's a great invention, but I think sceners
should not abuse it as they certainly are. For one thing, music in demos
should not be in MP3 format unless absolutely necessary. An other problem is
that many musicians nowadays release their music on the net in MP3 format
instead of releasing modules, probably in order to hide their samples and to
add effects to their tunes in an external program after tracking.

While the latter reason is ok, I think the first one is not, because
sample-hiding destroys the scene. The scene is about sharing, and in my
opinion that does not only apply to music but also to samples.

When you ask me about the new trackers such as Buzz and Madtracker, I think
in theory they and their formats are ok, but they have bad interfaces and
are just a bit too cumbersome than as to be cool scene musician tools..

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • Only for my friends. Nobody else would ask for that, anyway :)

  • Oldschool Composers: Johann Sebastian Bach, Sergei Prokofiev, Danny Elfmann

Modern composers: Aphex Twin, Square Pusher, Amon Tobin, Björk

    Bands: Dream Theater, Ulu

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • Never really got into contact with it. However, on the Atari ST
I first got into contact with cracktros and chip music, so thinking
about such old machines always makes me feel a little nostalgic.

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • See question 8. Yes, I am, and I'm planning to visit a good lot
    of demoparties this year.

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • Hmm theoretically I could do it like Nagz now and list the 86524564256
cool sceners I know personally. But I won't :) My friends know who they are,
and I'd like to send the dearest greetings to the guys in my groups, in #trax,
#analogik, #szene.ger, esper.net friends, and all chiptrackers and everyone
active on the scene. Keep the spirit, guys!
