I knew i would definately stick on my own computer as soon as i would get one. I think i've early guessed that computers were the absolute tool for creating pictures and musics by myself. I got my first comp in 1991. My firt computer was a 486DX/33Mhz PC, but i used to practice years before that on Thomson T07, MO5 and friends' CPC 6128. We played a lot with my friends, but we deeply searched in the user manual in order to learn basic too. I would have DIE to get an Amiga, but it was very expensive... With the PC my mom's got, i've finally found proper tools for creating modules, the story begins... I was musician already, i play drums since i was 13. I've really learned on how to compose using soundtrackers. Harmony and melodies, that's what i missed ;) Scream Tracker 3, and later Impulse Tracker. Since I've used Windows2000 and now XP, DOS-based trackers aren't functionnal anymore, so i stick to other programs, like Propellerheads' Reason. And since i keep performing with instruments, i often run multitrack recorders like Samplitude Studio. MP3 dominates Modules now... I tend to be more proud of my MP3 release with vocals of instruments performed, but i was very proud of my mod named "MonsieurB" when it's been released at Theralite. There were soul, groove, melodies and different parts, like a story that was being told. I hardly release a tune when i'm not satisfied with it. It may sound silly, but it's true ;) Since the release of famous demos including commercial-MP3-music, i only can say that a demo is a combination of creations, and music is one of these, as well as graphics or code. For me a demo is a way to show the world that we can do killer-prods ! The best we can do. Music in particular is drastic. Without music, no ambiance, no rhythm, no transitions. A good soundtrack can save a bad demo. In games, music is less important, it only has to be pleasant and not boring. Yes, i always have projects running, with live bands as well as demoscene with Orion (not the amiga group), or projects with composers on internet. It's the logic evolution of home-made music. 10 years ago we couldn't afford to get a computer powerfull enough to produce a 8 tracks song with guitars, vocals, whatever. Now our PC stations are some real little studios. We can express what we want, we don't have technical barriers anymore. Tears for Fears' "Seeds of Love" for the euphoric mood, Björk's "Joga" for the power of her soul, Prince&NPG's "I Hate You" for the energy and softness at the same time. Yes, that's a fun thing to do with great new softwares like Reason. Lots... Particularly Björk, Prince, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Tears for Fears, The Roots, Bowie, Massive Attack, Demon, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Adam F, Cyress Hill, Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead... The 8-16 bit era was the birth of a great passion... I had the chance of seing the evolution of the computers as i was growing myself. Not as a newbie who gets his brand new 1Ghz PC under windows millenium. See ? Yes. Orion has always a demo in developpement, and i always love producing with this group. See our productions at : www.orion-tribe.org Sure =) Hi to the Orion collective : Niakool, Jaylee, Splif, Chaosnet, Sear, Shi, and all who have contributed with us, Danube, Fra, Toasty, Pitbull, Kacy.
