I started by playing games with the C64 and then got interested about coding. I experimented with the C64 basic and after we got our 286 in 1989 with QuickBasic. I started composing in 1993 when I got my first GUS. Making music was so natural for me. A perfect way to process feelings or something. And I have had music as a hobby since I was four. The trackers I first used were Digitracker and Ultratracker. They were pretty crappy compared to Scream Tracker 3 which i fell in love with. Most of my modules are made with it, although I have also made some stuff with Impulse Tracker. In 1996 I started to use Cubase as my sequencer as i moved from trackers to midi equipment. I have used it ever since. When a composer feels like he has reached his goal, he should quit composing. I think that a certain unfulfilled ambition is essential for a composer. But I guess I did something worth listening in 1996. No. Although there is something comical in the first ambient tune I made in 1993 when I thought ambient was the hardest form of techno. It sounds like gabber. I don't think it's possible to make a good demo without good music, bad tunes always spoil the whole thing. A demo is a whole which requires that all of the parts are done well. With games it's not so simple, some games need music more than others. Yes, although I haven't been able to get anything ready for some time. Mostly for the inner need of composing I guess. MP3 is a very, very nice thing. It gives new unsigned musicians a new kind of chance to get their music heard. I love releasing my music in MP3 format. Well, I could list some albums that changed my life: The Orb: Orbus Terrarum, FSOL: Lifeforms, Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works 2, Autechre: Tri. Repetae, Squarepusher: Hard Normal Daddy, Vangelis: Oceanic. Most of my newer tracks are already released on CDr. I have no plans on releasing old modules, it's not possible to remaster them so that they would sound even decent. I let them rest in their own 8-bit world. According to the CD's I have on my table: Pink Floyd, J.S.Bach, Dire Straits, Ceniq, H.Kyllönen, The Cardigans, Ultra Bra, Vangelis, Zen Cafe, Autechre, CMX and The John Scofield Band. Good memories. I have to say no. Naah, I would just forget someone and make him/her sad. No. And thanks, I'm feeling quite free already! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2002 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
