Date of birth: 27.01.75 In 1983 I got my first computer, which was a TI-99/4A, and started learning to program it in extended basic. I have used a TRS-80 model 4, several Amigas (1000, 3000), and several PCs (since 1995). I've done a little graphics work, but mainly music composition and sound design. In my early Amiga days, I wanted to code (around 1986-88), and got a few books on C and 68000 assembly, but it wasn't as instantly satisfying as doing graphics and music. And I guess the reason more focus went into music than graphics was just because I was better at it :) I wasn't as satisfied with the stuff I did in DPaint and Sculpt-Animate 4D. I had a lot more fun working with Soundtracker. Well as far as writing mods went, I started on Soundtracker 2.4 on my Amiga 1000. Then I started using Protracker, which I used for the rest of my modwriting years. When I started doing MIDI sequencing, I used Bars and Pipes Professional on the Amiga, but then switched to Logic Audio on the PC when I realized that I was going to need midi/digital-audio hardware they didn't (and never would) make for the Amiga. I'm using Logic Audio Platinum 4.72 now. There never was a single goal. Each mod was its own goal. I thought Industry was pretty cool though because it was the first time I really put my new sampler to good use and went into the garage and looked for things to make noise with (I used an electric drill, and an edger blade that was struck with a hammer). So that was the point at which I started putting real effort into doing something creative. Naah, every tune is nice to remember in its own way :) Music is the best way to set the mood and get an emotional response in any media... a movie, a game, a tv show, a stage play, an amusement park ride, anything. I can't really put into words what it is exactly that music adds to these things, but I'm sure we all understand that it completely changes the experience. Yes. Leisure now, but professional soon, hopefully. I never stopped making music... Life just got a little complicated and I had to slow down a bit. :) The technology? The formats? I think it's great. If it weren't for compression algorithms and high-speed networks, I'd still be passing out analog cassettes :) Mods only? CDs? Or just melodies, regardless of production or media? I've always liked Depeche Mode's "Nothing to Fear" off of A Broken Frame which was redone in at least 2 Amiga demos (where I first heard it)... More recently, I like "Out of the Blue" by System F (Ferry Corsten), and also "Bellisima" by DJ Quicksilver. Lots of Erasure stuff (and 80's danceclub music in general for that matter)... as well as Jean-Michel Jarre. It's hard to pick only a few tunes from so many different styles... Yes. I haven't redone any mods yet, but I've distributed many CDs of newer material produced with synths. Infected Mushroom, Shpongle, Paul van Dyk, Juno Reaktor, Bjork, Air, BT, Hybrid, Christopher Lawrence, Cosmosis, XDream, Union Jack, Art of Trance. A very unique feeling unlike anything else has given me since... A very distinct style of music and art together with the energy of a community. Remembering copyparties and reading scrolltexts for hours while demos ran in my bedroom with the lights off and the stereo loud gives me a flavour of inspiration that nothing else can. Of course a lot of that is probably just remembering being a teenager :) Nope. I'd like to say hi to everyone that ever liked a Deathjester mod. Or a Derrighan or Magic Firesheep track. Also, if anyone is interested in more recent productions, there are some mp3's at mp3.com/magicfiresheep. Not much yet on www.magicfiresheep.com, but there should be a lot more info when the CD comes out and all the liveshows start getting booked :) Mail [email protected] to get on the mailing list if you want to know of releases and performances. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- please note: this interview is ©opyrighted in 2001 by crown of cryptoburners ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
