    Group: D.O.C

Date of birth: 04th January 1971

  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • 1983 when I started playing games on the C64

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • C-64 = small demos/intros for no group (real simple SID rips with menus)
Amiga 1000, later 1200 = all the D.O.C stuff and some games for Software
    2000, also SIDmon1 and SIDmon2 (for Turtle-Byte software)

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • Woot? I *am* a coder (still). I only did a few mods because I like music, but
I never considered myself being good at it. Nowadays I am much better, but
I use synthesizers now, not the (much too simple) mod format.

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • First the normal trackers (the real first ones, I did a few myself :), later
(for my own games) I used SIDmon2 and AST (Actionamics Sound Tracker). For my
synth music I used Music-X and later, on the PC, Cubase.

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • With every one :) I never made any modules for our demos etc. but just for the
games I did and for them I just needed something quick'n'dirty.

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • All of them. They where pretty amateurish and bad (listen to SHiftrix etc.)

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • Music is very precious to me. It's 50% of the demo/game. If the music sucks,
the demo/game sucks. Good music is in e.g. Tron 2.0 (PC). That is *really*
    good and fiting music.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Both. I sometimes make demo-tunes for the synthesizers I program commercialy.
Then I sometimes compose music, just for the fun of it, but I rarely finish
them and don't consider them to be particulary good :(

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • All the formats are fine by me (except MIDI for it's bad quiality) as long as
they don't use any DRM scheme to hinder the legimaty user to hear it in the
context he likes (on CD, in an portable player, in the car, on the computer
    etc.)

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • Only classic SID tunes from the C64 come to mind (in no particular order):

    "Auf Wiedersehen Monty"
    "Crazy Comets"
    "Master Of Magic"
    "Monty on the Run"
    "Thrust"
    "Comic Bakery"
    "Last Ninja 3"
    "Last Ninja 2"
    "Shades"

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • God forbid. No. Never.

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, VNV Nation, Jean Michel Jarre, a lot of
    goa-trance and soft-trance stuff

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • A lot of fun and a very good time. My best friend (whom I still know, we talk
    to each other daily!)

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • Nope.

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • Buy some software from time to time, the smaller developers need it badly.
