    Handle: cBa

    Group: Paranoia

    Date of birth: xx/06/1981

  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • 1991. I got an Amiga 500 for christmas.

  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • Atari Lynx - Stopped working.
Amiga 500 - Got replaced with Amiga 1200.
    Amiga 1200 - Broke.
    ACER Laptop - Dropped.

  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • I bought a CU-Amiga magazine with Octamed on the coverdisk back in 1992. From then on I was hooked. I started uploading some really bad tunes to local BBSs in 1994.

  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • Protracker and Octamed. Octamed in particular. I did most of my sampling from Gabber/Noise and minimal techno records through a G-Soft Sampler with Audio Engineer Software (Australian Products).

  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • At the time it was electron (If I can remember the name of it correct). At that stage I was very much into going to raves and electro doofs. I heard a track by Anthony Rother called don't stop the beat at an Earthcore (Which I didn't know at the time). First thing when I got home in the morning, was I tried to emulate the strings whilst they were still in my memory. Thats what I came up with. Another was Bust The New Jam, that was one module I was really proud of.

  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • There was one I made called honey. This one, I dislike more than my earlier .mods it was a .mod I wrote on the PC in fasttracker (8 channel i think by memory). At the time I thought it was great. I got a few dollars together, and got a production run made of 50 on vinyl and thought this is it! I took the 7" to a few retailers around town (Central Station, 3D Radio, and Big Star) for them to sell on consignment. In a way I should have waited, cause it was a waste of money. The 7" was called Pandemonium - Honey. It was the only release on a label planned by me and a friend called Diskotech. The B side was called Vaccum.

  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • Adds to the atmosphere. I remember loading up Speedball 2 as a kid, just to hear the theme by John Foxx/ Nation 12. The music was what made games like Lotus 2 so good, not to mention the Team 17 games.

  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • I have a Korg Z1, a MicroKorg Vocoder, a Yamaha YS200, PAIA 6710 Vocoder, Roland CR80,and a Tascam 424, which I ocassionally use to write EBM. I haven't made anything i've created available on the net in a while, although I contributed on vocals + MicroKorg bassline for a local Drum N Bass artists release (Catastrophic - Chicken Lover EP).

  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • Very beneficial. Now we can have higher sample rates + vocals.

  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • The sound tracks to blaster and super stardust. I have appreciated many modules in the past, but can not think of the names at the moment.

  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • I would if there were any interest, but I think not.

  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • Front 242, Spetsnatz, Underground Resistance, Drexciya, Klaustrophobic, Nitzer Ebb, Signal Aout 42, Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills, Cabaret Voltaire, Severed Heads, Kraftwerk.

  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • A passion for electronic music.

  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • Nope, I tried quite a bit in fruityloops, but gave up when all the rendered synths sounded different every time I upgraded the software. I do want to get an A1200 of eBay if one becomes available, but I think I am too busy with work + uni. I have my A1200 hard drive saved in my shed with all my samples. Hoping it will work again one day. Trackers on the Amiga were just so easy to use. I have 'real' synths now, but they don't have the ease of use the tracker had. I would put up with 8-bit sound to have one!! Afterall, a lot of Front 242's music was 8-bit and I still think they were one of the best bands ever.

  • 15-Anyone to greet? Anything left to say? Feel free...

  • I have included a lot of music which was on my site, and sites of affilate trackers circa 1999. This music was not widely made avaiable on Aminet at the time. One thing I dont like in hindsite is the name cBa. It was aBc backwards I chose it real quick when i needed to chose a handle to get on the BBSs. The name stuck, but in the end it sounds too much like Commonwealth Bank of Australia. My later modules were titled under the name Pandemonium or Paranoia. If I start writing again. I think I will chose another name :).
