  • 1-How did your interest for computers start? Which year was that?

  • Oo, I think, my first contact was in the early 80ies, when some friends of
    mine first had telegames (for tv) then later (in 1985) my dad buyed a ibm
    pc at (286 I think) for his office. On that box I played "the castle"
    (a text adventure) and "pacman" and so on. I was a yellow-on-black-screen,
    the games with asci-grafix. Then later again, friends got a c64s and
    eventually one got an amiga 500 (in spring 1986). To my complete surprise
    my parents bought my one too only six weeks later. And so the thing startet
    really...


  • 2-What machines did you previously have? What did you do with them?

  • My first computer was an amiga 500 (I upgraded it to 1mb ram and bought a
    second floppy disk). I played games, did some grafix with deluxe paint.
    Only a few times I experimented with music, but that wasn't anything great.
    My attempts to code were disastrous. Only in 1999 I bought my next machine,
    which I use until now, a pentium 400mhz, win98...


  • 3-For what specific reason did you end up making music rather than gfx, coding?

  • For coding I havent the right brain. I do gfx too, but mostly analog, I'm
    not a good pixler yet. So I'm a singer & guitarist and I discovered hard
    disk recording first before getting into tracking & looping...


  • 4-Which composing programs have you been using? Which one in particular?

  • Modplugtracker, cooleditpro, fruityloops.


  • 5-With which module did you feel you had reached your goal?

  • Unfortunately the tune I did for skp (which is also on pouet) was the only
    one that i'd ever really finished. I mean, the main problem with tracking
    is, u have to much patterns and u always try to improve and to add more
    and more. But often the result isn't a working composition. "xenon" is
    quite simple, but it's a round thing.


  • 6-Is there a tune you would like not to remember? For what reason?

  • I have enough bad tunes, but haven't published them. And I won't do so, I
    hope.


  • 7-In your opinion, what's the value of a music in a demo, game?

  • In a demo it's like in a movie: it provides at least 50% of the mood. It
    can improve a demo or ruin it's effect. Even: the visible part can only be
    illustratioin to the music. In games it's similar, but the reception of
    music works more unconciously, so the role of music in a game may not be so
    important as in a demo.


  • 8-At present, are you still composing? For professional or leisure purposes?

  • Yes, only leisure.


  • 9-What do you think of today's pieces of music such as mpeg,wave,midi,etc...?

  • I'm everything but a purist or docmatic. I'm an allrounder. Everything that
    sounds good is good! But of course the mods are incredible intelligent
    because of their efficiency. Waves allow the deepest quality of sound, but
    aren't too cool to handle in the net or in a quick exchange.


  • 10-Could you tell us some of your all times favourite tunes?

  • Hmm, I don't know one now...


  • 11-Are you planning to make an audio cd with some of your music remastered?

  • I already did that. With no professional remasting but I did it myself with
    cooledit. But this cd contents mostly material from my analog music, only a
    few computer tunes.


  • 12-What bands are you currently listenning to?

  • My latest cd is the new one of bill frisell, on which he playes along with
    dave holland and elvin jones. It's a jazz thing. Very fine loop-music is on
    the 2000-album of st. germain.


  • 13-What does/did the amiga/c64 scene give you?

  • Amiga was the colorful gate into the digital world. It was very important.
    I've learnt a lot about computer then and more english than in scool. Most
    of the best games were written on c64/amiga. And the amiga was an early real
    multimedia-machine, u could do gfx, coding, sound and film long before it
    was possible on any other machine. It gave me the ability to think in
    different creative connections. It showed possible multimedia-combinations
    before the actual invention of that term.


  • 14-Are you still active in the scene these days?

  • My brother (robotriot) is very active and sometimes he asks me to do
    something, that's my main connection to the scene.
